I also think the term "hate crime" is pointless and redundant in all cases. Crime is crime, send these 4 people off for a very lengthy jail sentence, get the victim the treatment and counselling he's going to need and let's move on with the rest of our lives.

I disagree. 

There's a massive difference between certain motivations.

Someone torturing another because they'd raped their daughter is not the same as someone torturing someone purely out of hatred for another race.

Torture itself is probably not the best example because there is a certain vindictiveness about it that makes it completely indefensible. But murder on the other hand, as another example, could be seen quite differently.

If it was a father doing that I'd understand that being taken as a special case thing. Idk, I'm not that strongly against "hate crime" legislation I just don't see much need for it.

I actually saw some of the footage though and, fuck it I'm gonna say it, these 4 people in particular deserve to be fucking stoned. I actually think torture is worse than just quick murder, the psychological and physical trauma of it.

Chicago investigators are questioning four African-Americans after a Facebook Live video shows a group of people torturing a white mentally disabled man while someone yelled "F*** Trump!" and "F*** white people!"
Chicago police were made aware of the video Tuesday afternoon. A young African American woman streamed the video live on Facebook showing at least four people holding the young white man hostage.

"The video is reprehensible," said police spokesman Anthony Guglielmi.

"It's sickening. You know it makes you wonder what would make individuals treat somebody like that," Police Supt. Eddie Johnson added.
Throughout the video, the victim is repeatedly kicked and hit, his scalp is cut, all while he is tied up with his mouth taped shut.
At one point, the victim is held at knife point and told to curse President-elect Donald Trump. The group also forces the victim to drink water from a toilet.

Wondering if anyone has seen this story and what they think about it. Has anyone seen it on TV or is it not being treated as a major news story over there? 

Would we all agree this is a close and shut "hate crime" that these utter cunts should be locked up for?

To answer your question Nap, this is the first I'm hearing of this. I haven't watched the news yet, but so far there's been nothing at all on my facebook feed or on my trending feed about this. Which is where I usually first find out about big things happening. 

Something tells me if this was 4 white men from small town Texas torturing a black disabled man while saying "F*ck black people" and "Go Trump", it would be much bigger news and there would be 0 question that this was a hate crime and a race issue. 

...But, ya know. Double standards and all that.

It's a hate crime and disgusting on several levels.

I'm shocked that the press and police aren't being more candid about this in calling it a hate crime. They literally said "F@#k white people!" as they tormented this poor disabled guy. All I have to ask these people is this: if the races were reversed, is it a hate crime? They would undoubtedly say yes, so why the double standard!? Equality means equality, once you make exceptions it isn't equality anymore.

Point sort of taken, however your staff should at least follow the rules they are tasked with enforcing.

Whether he was acting as a member or a moderator, he was still trolling a couple of pages back. I don't see anything being done about that. It doesn't exactly take a detective to figure out why.

There's a common misconception that moderators and admins have to behave a certain way. They're not expected to. Napo knows that. If LP were acting as a moderator, he would behave as a moderator should. The rest of the time, he's just a member saying what he wants, which is his right.

Yes, yes, we know, green text + 'mod hat' means "I'm now a moderator", anything else they're just like the rest of us.

Doesn't make it any less unbecoming to act in a certain way. I know when I was a moderator I at least tried to be a bit professional when having forum spats and not break the very rules I was claiming to enforce.

Honest answer: because the media already downplays race crime against whites and indeed any crimes caused by ethnic minorities. However the reverse happens and it's immediately without question called what it is (which is as it should be btw).

There's a double standard that goes on with the media when a lot of these types of stories are reported, at least from what I see.

If it's a white kid shooting up a school they'll immediately tell you that it is such. If it's a jihadi shooting people in the streets they wait as long as possible before even mentioning the word terrorism.

Use the title of the article in the OP as a prime example. Nowhere is race mentioned in it. However if it were the other way around, you can bet your ass they'd make a point of saying it's race related. 100%.
