Andy Dwyer is one of the best sitcom characters of all time, and no manner of massive movie letdown can tarnish that.
"There remain four irreducible objections to religious faith: that it wholly misrepresents the origins of man and the cosmos, that because of this original error it manages to combine the maximum servility with the maximum of solipsism, that it is both the result and the cause of dangerous sexual repression, and that it is ultimately grounded on wish-thinking." ~Christopher Hitchens, god is not Great

"Please not another Marvel trailer, please not another Marvel trailer, please not.."
It's another Marvel trailer FOOLS!
Iron First

Why it's exciting:
So many reasons. As a Marvel fan, seeing your favorite characters get picked up by Netflix means 10 to 13 hours of character development, rather than a 90 minute movie. It's literally a ridiculous childhood wish come true. I owe it to my inner duckling to only be excited. Plus, the track record is so good. Both seasons of Daredevil were excellent, Jessica Jones was maybe even better, and even though I thought it faltered a few times Luke Cage was very solid all around.
Kung fu cinema, man! Sometimes you just want to see it. What's funny is Roy Thomas created Iron Fist during the 70's kung fu movie obsession, and now Danny Rand (Iron Fist) is making his motion picture debut.
Not only is Danny the final Defender (for those who don't know, Netflix will make a mini street level Avengers series called Defenders with Daredevil, Luke Cage, Jessica Jones, Iron Fist, and possibly the Punisher), but we're also gonna get to see one of comic's best duos in Power Man and Iron Fist aka Heroes for Hire
I don't think they'll do the Heroes for Hire thing, but just seeing them interact will be awesome.
One more thing, then I'll shut up. In the trailer, Danny gets a card with a snake looking emblem that resembles his Dragon emblem, minus the wings. That's his nemesis the Steel Serpent from the Immortal Iron Fist: The Last Iron Fist story line, who was trained in K'un L'un like Danny, so we'll definitely see some awesome Kung Fu action.
I can't remember where this verse is from, I think it got removed from canon:
"I don't hang around with mostly men because I'm gay. It's because men are better than women. Better trained, better equipped...better. Just better! I'm not gay."
For context, this is the previous verse:
"Hi Jesus" -robvalue

Ooh, let's not ignore the newest salacious, Christian wank-fest...
You gotta love how they cut to him staring at the Shroud of Turin at the end...because it's not like that has been thoroughly debunked or anything.
A description...
Quote:In 1980, Lee Strobel’s award-winning investigative reporting earned him a promotion to legal editor at the Chicago Tribune. Things at home weren’t going nearly as well. His wife Leslie’s newfound faith in Christ compels Lee to utilize his journalistic and legal training to disprove the claims of Christianity—pitting his resolute atheism against her growing faith.
Oh, noes! Resolute atheism is no match for growing faith!

Here's one a trailer that, honestly, infuriates me more than any I've seen in a long time:
It may not seem like much, but here's the thing; this girl's got this amazing intellectual gift, and this woman from a special school discovered this and wants to put her into a special place where her gifts can be nurtured. And she's the bad guy because her dad promised his dead wife he'd give her a normal life, someplace where she will be surrounded by people she will come to see as idiots, likely becoming a target for bullying by other kids who don't like that she's actually got a functioning brain, unlike them.
It enrages me because I wound up in a similar situation; I learned to read before I was potty trained, and an IQ test I took at the age of 5 or 6 said I had an IQ of 176 (and it's the Weschler, as far as I can tell), but because my mother insisted that I go to a Lutheran school, specifically her old grade school, where the teachers simply weren't able to cope with someone who, in the first grade, could read a book without having to trace the words with my finger and the students treated me like some sort of Untermensch because I wasn't like them. I bear scars, both physical and mental, to this day. And they're expecting me to root for a Dad subjecting his own daughter to something so close to that?
Also, whatever Cat Stevens has done since he became Yusuf Islam, it's certainly not bad enough to merit being associated with this movie.

Ugh, that does look pretty bad. It appears as if the subtext of the movie will be that only conforming to societal norms will allow you to be happy.

You know, there's actually a much better film around this concept, it's called Little Man Tate.
And Jodie Foster at least has some grasp about what it would be like for a child prodigy to be put into that situation, and we can at least see the pros and cons of a 7-year-old kid being thrust into a special environment (him being extremely unhappy in his regular school environment and being in over his head in another environment), but nobody's treated like a villain, even if both Jodie Foster and Dianne Wiest's characters exhibit major flaws. Jodie Foster being a member of MENSA may have something to do with it.
Maybe Gifted might end up being a bit more like Little Man Tate, but that would likely require a major rewrite of the script or everything the studio has told the public about the film being wrong.

Looks really intriguing, good for Arnold to go for some interesting roles. Thing is, ever since I had children, the lingering fear of loss is so strong that I can't stomach this kind of drama any more.
I'm the same.
If I'm watching a movie and a kid gets hurt, I turn it off.
