Today, Senator Rand Paul (R-TX) was a fortunate bystander at the scene of a shooting, in the batting cage when a deranged gunman fired more than 50 rounds and wounded five people. Senator Paul released a statement praising the “bravery of the Capitol Police,” who heroically shot the assailant despite being wounded themselves.

During the administration of President Barack Obama, however, Paul sang a very different tune, trumpeting one of the right’s favorite pieces of bogus Constitutional propaganda: that the Second Amendment was put in place so that citizens could overthrow the government.

Bullshit, that is selection bias and sample rate error. We are not talking about one or two events. It is still far easier to commit murder with a gun than a knife. 

You want this to be about politics so you can falsely paint liberals as the bad guys. This is about ONE INDUSTRY AND ONE LOBBY. But if you want to make it about politics, only one party is supporting an industry that is producing on average 36,000 gun deaths per year. 

I don't think Bernie Sanders is responsible for 36,000 gun deaths.

I remember when Justice Scalia died, and I saw a lot of celebratory 'tweets' from people I wouldn't consider extreme, and that was sort of the writing on the wall, in my mind.

If you believe someone's death is something to be celebrated, "someone should murder them" is a conclusion you can reach pretty easily..

And the second event of note, in my mind, was the Alt-Right guy getting sucker punched on camera. And again, the reaction was celebratory. Which to me says "Violence against people you disagree with is good."

I expect we're going to see more of this stuff in the near future. During the primaries, I remember all the explanations how Trump is "Just like" Hitler. Or sometimes worse than Hitler. Well, if Trump were worse than Hitler, and elected president...what should be the response to that. If Republicans are just like Nazi's. If Democrats are going to strip you of all your freedom and get you killed. These are caricatures of things people have gone to war over.

It's good for turning out the vote and selling newspapers/ad time, so it'll never go away. But I think political violence like this is just getting started.

There's a certain irony in the left being the self proclaimed champions of compassion and tolerance only to have one of their own shoot down someone they disagreed with politically. The gunman was shot dead by the police. No doubt, this will end up in your, "Fucking Cops", thread because they shot and killed the leftist fucker who was doing the shooting?

There's also a certain irony in the left being the self proclaimed champions of free speech only to have a vicious mob from their ranks riot, commit assault, and destroy public and private property whenever a University invites a conservative to speak on their campus.
