Being An Atheist Doesn't Make You A Good Person
September 5, 2017 at 3:19 pm
So this will be more of a rant than anything else but still I wanted to talk to someone about it that wasn't a Christian that would silently judge all atheists.
I've had to unfollow two atheist pages on Facebook because both were bringing politics into the devastation that is Hurricane Harvey. One said Texas deserved it because 'we' voted republican as a state. I flipped a lid on this one. First off Houston is kin to Austin apparently since we are both blue cities in a swarm of red so I inquired why they deserved to be destroyed. This yahoo said it's because the state as a whole voted republican. I honestly don't get why this plays any part but he was being very aggressive and rude. I was done with him after that.
The second one thought it was funny that Texas voted for Trump and now we get this hurricane. He acted like it was karma for voting badly. I say fuck you and unfollowed him without argument.
Now I know simply having a lack of belief in gods doesn't make us all best friends nor does it make someone respect humanity but geebus fuck these two make us really look like dick heads.
I know most of us here are pretty compassionate people for the most part so it just baffles me that someone who 'rags' on the religious for being intolerant and inhumane could turn around and say someone deserved to lose everything they own (and their lives for 60 people) simply because the place they lived voted opposite from how they did.
Am I being childish to be so upset over this?

I think the only characteristic that atheism fosters nearly universally is a craving for fresh, delicious baby meat.
As for the Texas Aid proposals, what's wrong with respecting their oft stated beliefs on the issue? No revenge, no sarcasm, no being snarky, just respect for their views.
It's that simple of an issue without over thinking it or inserting angst and drama.
The granting of a pardon is an imputation of guilt, and the acceptance a confession of it.

I'm more concerned with how they can say any human could -deserve- what happened to them.

It happened on this forum as well.
"Of course, everyone will claim they respect someone who tries to speak the truth, but in reality, this is a rare quality. Most respect those who speak truths they agree with, and their respect for the speaking only extends as far as their realm of personal agreement. It is less common, almost to the point of becoming a saintly virtue, that someone truly respects and loves the truth seeker, even when their conclusions differ wildly."

So this god caused a hurricane because a state voted a certain way. Why not make it impossible to vote the 'wrong' way? Why go through the charade of allowing people to exercise free will and then punishing them (and everyone else) for doing it?
What tiny, petty minds some people have.
At the age of five, Skagra decided emphatically that God did not exist. This revelation tends to make most people in the universe who have it react in one of two ways - with relief or with despair. Only Skagra responded to it by thinking, 'Wait a second. That means there's a situation vacant.'

No, I don't think it was childish.
Personally, I find this sort of thing disgusting. Who cares who they voted for, those are goddamned people who need help. Some things are above politics - this is one.

Personally, I wouldn't see any kind schadenfreude about Houston as representative of atheism or atheists.

Florida's next you bastards. Miami gets a pass but the rest of you, well, just bend over.

Don't worry, mooney... there are assholes on every large enough group of people... and there are tons of atheists out there.
Who cares if 2 or 20 of them are idiots? That is to be expected.
You did good in unfollowing them.

I saw that on facebook. Yeah, gloating over people dying in natural disasters doesn't look any better when atheists do it than when theists do it.
