I saw that, too. I'm willing to give considerable leeway to one who just went through such a horrific ordeal. With time, perhaps he will come to understand how idiotic his remark was. Or not.
Regardless, we can be certain that the worst among the theists will latch onto this latest update of the 'no atheists in foxholes' lie as further "evidence" for their fantasies. Their desperation for validation and sheer shamelessness is a constant.

And they'll do fuck all to stop the next one. If they didn't do anything after 20 kids were murdered in Connecticut, they're not going to do anything after 50 die in Las Vegas. and they won't do anything when 70 die in wherever it happens, and it's bound to sooner or later.
Absolutely fucking horrific. Makes me sick to my stomach to hear about this.

Just talked to my office manager who was in Vegas over the weekend.
She was staying in the same hotel as the shooter but checked out the morning of the shooting. My other coworker (step-daughter of our office manager) wanted to stay an extra night and go to that concert. AND she was also in Spain when the Madrid thing happened over the summer. This just cements the fact that I won't be traveling anywhere with her soon. (And I might rethink the Christmas party this year if she comes)
Some of the friends who they met up with there are still in lock-down in the hotel with no known time when lock-down will be lifted. They said that they had a SWAT team break down their door in a room-by-room search.
This has not been a good year for my office. :S

There is no oil involved; that's why they won't do a thing.
The MOABs and the muscles only show up in the foreign policy; with travel bans on a certain ethnicity or two. A person should never earn the right to posses and hold an automatic rifle or a flamethrower right in the middle of a city, even in wars these guns are kept in armories as far as I know.
People kill, yes I agree, but put nice guns with nice shooting mechanisms with nice shooting effect in the hands of people, and somebody WILL shoot on others for whatever reason. Especially since many humans are known to bring a baseball bat into a fist fight.
I think more awareness should be spread about the aftermath of a bullet impact on the human body; like brain oozing out or eye popping out
The poor people who pay are the disaster in all of this.

Edit: the fact that I used the phrase "average shooting spree bill" is fucking sad.
I am not accusing you of anything here.
Just getting tired of having to point out profiles and motives SHOULD NOT be the focus.
It should not matter if the shooting was accidental.
It should not matter if the shooting is a suicide.
It should not matter if the shooting is a domestic murder.
It should not matter if the shooting is mentally ill.
It should not matter if the shooting is Christian or Islamic motivated.
It should not matter if the gun was legally or illegally obtained.
The reason is one reason only. The factories have used the heat shield of the NRA and GOP and all three sell fear to protect the industry profits. We have 36,000 firearm deaths of all kinds, from both legally obtained and illegally obtained guns because the industry uses fear to keep our flooded market and ease of access.
See the above.

Texas Governor John Connally commissioned a task force to examine the autopsy findings and material related to Whitman's actions and motives. The commission was composed of neurosurgeons, psychiatrists, pathologists, psychologists, and the University of Texas Health Center Directors, John White and Maurice Heatly. The Commission's toxicology tests revealed nothing significant. They examined Chenar's paraffin blocks of the tumor, stained specimens of it and Whitman's other brain tissue, in addition to the remainder of the autopsy specimens available.
Following a three-hour hearing on August 5, the Commission concluded that Chenar's finding had been in error. They found that the tumor had features of a glioblastoma multiforme, with widespread areas of necrosis, palisading[further explanation needed] of cells. and a "remarkable vascular component" described as having "the nature of a small congenital vascular malformation." Psychiatric contributors to the report concluded that "the relationship between the brain tumor and [...] Whitman's actions [...] cannot be established with clarity. However, the [...] tumor conceivably could have contributed to his inability to control his emotions and actions", while the neurologists and neuropathologists concluded: "The application of existing knowledge of organic brain function does not enable us to explain the actions of Whitman on August first."
Forensic investigators have theorized that the tumor may have been pressed against Whitman's amygdala, a part of the brain related to anxiety and fight-or-flight responses.
I'm old enough to remember this shooting. It was a BFD 'back in the day' and unfortunately the time line for getting the above information was rather long. I note the similarity of the height of the gunman's perch in both mass shootings, and further, the shooter today is old enough to remember Whitman's assault too . . .
I mentioned this particular shooting to Tibs this morning when I heard, not because of the height, but because of the lack of obvious motivation, and the later diagnosis of a brain tumor. I would not be surprised to learn that this man had something severely wrong with him that wasn't just pure evil. Of course, I wouldn't be surprised if he was just evil either.

Strange how a mass shooting seems to happen every few months in the US where guns are legal for the public, very rarely happens in the UK where they are not (even allowing for the population difference)
People still say "guns keep us safe" must be a new definition of the word "safe"
The meek shall inherit the Earth, the rest of us will fly to the stars.

Their definition of "us" is very, very limited. Usually it's just the owner, sometimes not even the owner. It's a fact guns aren't good at keeping kids safe.

What the supporters of the GOP don't get, is this isn't just about firearms.
This is what lack of regulation gets you, just like the Wells Fargo CEO only stepped down, and the company got fined and nothing more.
This is what you get when you let ANY business selling ANY product write all the laws and do whatever the fuck they want.
This isn't about anyone's right to own a firearm. This about one industry using the NRA and GOP as a heat shield to protect their profit margins. Same tactic big tobacco uses with "smoker's rights".
They'd claim firearms are already heavily regulated. Yea ok, they are so effective this shit keeps happening.
Nope, this shit keeps happening because the business owners whom make these products do not give a shit where they end up or how many they make. Just like tobacco companies were lying about Joe Camel cartoon being adult marketing.
I am again, also so fucking sick of the far right falsely accusing the left of calling for 100% all out ban when all we want is to prevent firearms from ending up in the wrong hands.
