Sure we know why he was picking up sticks on the Sabbath, he had all 6 previous days to do so and so he ignored God's command. He knew what the consequences would be for a blatant act against God. As Jesus told the Pharisees, the Sabbath was made for man, man wasn't made for the Sabbath. God gave it as a day of rest from a week of toil and in that rest man was to spend his time with God not himself. By the way I doubt the man had a yard to clean up, most didn't, wasn't a luxury they could afford.
Not when one studies the whole Bible with the attitude to learn. The standard is to use the Bible to understand who God is and build a relationship with Him.

I just go by what the stories said, man. I missed the part where it says the king provides the garments, and if he did, why didn't he just give the odd man out a garment after he got there? Because not all are chosen, and apparently he wasn't wanted. And no, we don't know what the guy picking up sticks was doing the rest of the week, or why he was picking up sticks. He was apparently killed because he wasn't spending every hour of that day sitting on his ass, talking to god. By the way, how did anyone notice the guy in the first place, unless they were running around doing stuff too, instead of laying in bed at home, talking to god? Because apparently "no work on the sabbath" means you're not allowed to do anything that day. Not even something as trivial as picking up sticks. This is how petty your god is.

So..... a christian makes things up again to fit their agenda.
If all were invited why would he have to sneak in? Sounds to me like the king/god is just an ass.
Apparently, the guy without wedding clothes was supposed to be a thief, but even that raises some questions, like:
While theft violates one of the Ten Commandments, we don't know if a theft actually occurred. Just the attempt. So, why not exhibit Christian forgiveness rather than abuse?
Of course, since this is supposed to be about entering heaven, how could one steal their way in? I mean, if god is omniscient, then no one wearing the wrong clothes (to continue the imagery) would even gain entrance to the party.
The whole part about the king's servants getting abused and murdered, and then the king butchering those people and burning down their town is absurd. If the people declined the first time, why press the issue? It seems to be a way to make the king a victim (they killed his servants (angels?), which seems like a pretty big overreaction) so that when he persists in throwing the party and decides to invite everyone else the reader can think "What a good guy!" Propaganda 101.
So, yeah, I stand by my original diagnosis of bullshit.

That's the whole deal right there. You gotta drink the koolaid, put on dem rose-colored glasses, pray really really hard, and turn off your brain. GAWD wrote this for MEEEE!!!!!
Yep, I spent 40 years in that brainwashed haze and memorized the whole craptastic book.
Then you wake up one day reading a part of it, and the only sane reaction is "wow that's stupid". And you read another part and the only sane reaction is "wow that's positively evil". And it just snowballs from there. So GC, keep those rose-colored glasses welded to your head. Because reading the Bible creates more atheists than anything else.

It would be a much shorter and thoroughly entertaining read if the filler was cut....though I guess that might make it look pathetically small compared to other books.

Just separating the old and new testaments makes the christian side of the holy book look absurdly small.
Back on the issue with parables, the main issue is that they're up to interpretation. As soon as you say it's not literally about a wedding, you're leaving it up to the audience to interpret what it means. And not everyone is going to take away the same lesson that you do. Or that the author intends.

Matthew 22:1-14
1 Jesus began to speak to them in parables once again,
2 'The kingdom of Heaven may be compared to a king who gave a feast for his son's wedding.
3 He sent his servants to call those who had been invited, but they would not come.
4 Next he sent some more servants with the words, "Tell those who have been invited: Look, my banquet is all prepared, my oxen and fattened cattle have been slaughtered, everything is ready. Come to the wedding."
5 But they were not interested: one went off to his farm, another to his business,
6 and the rest seized his servants, maltreated them and killed them.
7 The king was furious. He despatched his troops, destroyed those murderers and burnt their town.
8 Then he said to his servants, "The wedding is ready; but as those who were invited proved to be unworthy,
9 go to the main crossroads and invite everyone you can find to come to the wedding."
10 So these servants went out onto the roads and collected together everyone they could find, bad and good alike; and the wedding hall was filled with guests.
11 When the king came in to look at the guests he noticed one man who was not wearing a wedding garment,
12 and said to him, "How did you get in here, my friend, without a wedding garment?" And the man was silent.
13 Then the king said to the attendants, "Bind him hand and foot and throw him into the darkness outside, where there will be weeping and grinding of teeth."
14 For many are invited but not all are chosen.'
I'm not going to try to explain it, or tell you what spin the priest put on it, or tell you how I feel about it. I'll spare you. This question is for people who were NEVER Christian. So if you feel like reading 14 short verses and telling me what you think about the story, I'm just really curious. I'll share my thoughts later if you want.
Like the king, God will take all comers at His party as long as they dress and act well .. unless He is in a bad mood in which case you're screwed.
So, we've got a king who lives in a shitty neighborhood and has shitty friends..and part of why he;s surrounded by shitty people might be explained by his own response when he doesn't get his way.
That said, he seems to think that the crime of refusing his invitation is slightly worse than the crime of being poorly dressed. He murders one..and just hog-ties the others like a common pyscho.
If this is the kingdom of heaven, and this king is god....I'd move as far away as possible. A free plate at dennys isn't worth all that noise.

Yes, ignoring him or mocking him is worse than falling short while attempting to pay lip service to him. It's not about justice or fairness. It's about his feelings at the moment.

I see you can't comprehend situations very well, think on it instead of trying to give negative posts against my post. Just slow down and think, seriously.

I very much doubt you memorized the entire Bible, if you had you would know God doesn't expect man to put on rose colored glasses, what He does expect is that we read and study the Bible so we can learn and pray when we do not understand certain things asking Him to give use a clear vision of what is written.
Reading the Bible doesn't create atheist, it is the hardened heart that denies what the Bible says and by your attitude it's very easy to see you have hardened you heart toward God. Why I do not know. I do not wear blinders I have questioned God about some things in the Bible and asked Him to show me what I was missing and generally that is exactly what happens.

God loves those who believe and those who do not and the same goes for me, you have no choice in this matter. That puts the matter of total free will to rest.
