But then what the hell do I know about poeting. Maybe I'm not as deep as I think I am.
Heh. It’s about a specific person and the song Creep reminds me of said person. Which is why I then say “...to make this Creep bow down to you...”.
It’s like an inside joke, but it’s not a joke, and the person doesn’t know the non-joke. Lol
Poetry is about semaphore, too many people think it is about metaphor.
I will say this, there is a myth that poetry has one structure or that it always rhymes.
Poetry is like any other art, it is simply that which works.
Just like Sushi isn't fish, but is a range of looks and styles just like soup can be simple like tomato, then you can also have others that are more complex.
In all seriousness, I belonged to a poetry group, it held monthly meetings. I listened to and read lots of other members poetry. The most popular poet in the group, a black guy named Sam, gave me the best advice, and it is why I still write today. "Be yourself".
Some artists wait until they think it is perfect. Me, I don't. I write in volume, and take a photographer's view. Don't worry about making mistakes, don't try to be like others, just keep writing. Some photos you'll look back at and think, "What was I thinking?" but do it long enough, you always end up with some that you know are great. Point is, never be afraid of failure.
I wouldn't advise aspiring poets to think they will become the next Mia or Plath, but if you enjoy writing it, do it. It is your therapy regardless.
