If you guys set a date further out into the future, it means I can set that date down as "Yes, I'm meeting the AF crew on this date". The closer in, I have to check against a bunch of other shit coming up, is all. Also, the further out, the more I can throw money into a pot for the trip. I am a Jew with no gold.
Thus answereth the pragmatist. OK, cool. I asked because many people find it easier to commit to the potential of the future, but when it becomes an imminent reality, long laid plans often go awry.

I get pissed when things don't go to plan.
That would be fun to see - er, from a distance.

It comes from having a family who doesn't know how to travel. I don't want to sound like I'm not a spontaneous person, but when you live far away from EVERYONE it becomes hard to "go with the flow" because you're not near your house or whatever where you can change into hiking boots or high heels depending on the situation. So I like to have a reasonable idea of what's going on so I can pack for it, plan money around it, etc, without being one of those girls who has to carry a 5 piece matched luggage set.
Being a former Jeep girl (and still one at heart) it bothers me if I have to bring more than two duffel-sized bags/suitcases on any trip unless it's for over a week. Pack small, pack light, have a plan (but allow for contingencies) and DON'T CHANGE THINGS WHILE PEOPLE ARE ON THEIR WAY (like my family does...CONSTANTLY). Disclaimer: my sister is the kind of person to run roughshod over the rest of us and say one day "We're going to a fancy dinner on the 19th" and when the 19th arrives she'll have changed her mind completely (after everyone's arrived) and said "Nope, we're going hiking. I don't care if you can't go because you only packed high heels - you have to go!"
I travel extremely light. Comes from long distance trips on motorcycles. Gets you in shape for that sort of thing.

Travel light, hire a Sherpa.

But, if you're going by motorcycle, make sure he gets the keys to the Excursion.
