teachings of the Bible are so muddled and self-contradictory that it was possible for Christians to happily burn heretics alive for five long centuries. It was even possible for the most venerated patriarchs of the Church, like St. Augustine and St. Thomas Aquinas, to conclude that heretics should be tortured (Augustine) or killed outright (Aquinas). Martin Luther and John Calvin advocated the wholesale murder of heretics, apostates, Jews, and witches. - Sam Harris, "Letter To A Christian Nation"

I have only read one of them and that was called The God Delusional. But to be quite honest, whenever I hear him speak I have found that he comes off as quite smug and seems to talk down to those with other opinions. I'm an agnostic not I am not atheist nor Christian, so maybe I am a little biased. Smuggy McSmugface - I can't stand him!
You are currently experiencing a lucky and very brief window of awareness, sandwiched in between two periods of timeless and utter nothingness. So why not make the most of it, and stop wasting your life away trying to convince other people that there is something else? The reality is obvious.

I feel I have been there recently and peered deeply into the assholeevent horizon. But it's a bit like the heaven/hell thing. If the greats like Richard Dawkins, Sam Harris, etc are sucked into the horizon, that's where I would rather be also! One of the best books I have read is The Greatest Show On Earth. My take on Richard? He has a genius for explaining science, especially evolution, in a concise, coherent and clear manner. He is a genius science communicator. |
