@Vulcan, LOL. If I ever need a new sn I'm taking Pinko Trumpet.
@Roberto. I always wonder whether Iran would have ended up like a ME Norway had we not intervened on behalf of allied interests. The creation of something very much like Statoil being the catalyst for the CIA backed coup.
It's interesting that this speech touched on the nationalization of oil as a way to create an effective safety net. Also, that it refers to the corrupting influence on government that such a private business can exert. We haven;t solved either of these problems ourselves, effective state services and firewalling our legiuslative process from undue corporate influence...as of yet - but with norway as a practical example the course is obviously credible.
As to trump being more relatable. Trump isn;t more relatable than most anybody over here. The mans an odd fucking duck no matter who you compare him to or who does the comparing, lol. Trump hasn't been taking terrorism ore seriously, and he's flatly against "harmless illegals" because being an illegal is to be a criminal by default. IDK how illegal immigration is going to destroy a nation that depends on illegal immigration to persist, for that matter. I can see how it could be a problem in a place like Norway...but we don;t really have a "system" as such for the hypothetically useless immigrants to drain. They actually pay in to our little charade, but can't draw out.
I wouldn't worry too much about americans thinking that Norway is a socialist state. There's a subset of us that think anything to the left of Randian economics is soviet communism. Those people are idiots, though. The adults know better.

Quote:Our long years of negotiations with foreign countries... have yielded no results thus far. With the oil revenues we could meet our entire budget and combat poverty, disease, and backwardness among our people. Another important consideration is that by the elimination of the power of the British company, we would also eliminate corruption and intrigue, by means of which the internal affairs of our country have been influenced. Once this tutelage has ceased, Iran will have achieved its economic and political independence. The Iranian state prefers to take over the production of petroleum itself. The company should do nothing else but return its property to the rightful owners. The nationalization law provide that 25% of the net profits on oil be set aside to meet all the legitimate claims of the company for compensation. It has been asserted abroad that Iran intends to expel the foreign oil experts from the country and then shut down oil installations. Not only is this allegation absurd; it is utter invention.-Mossedegh, June '51
