Conservatives have more self-control

Conservatives have more self-control
Particularly those who believe in free will:

http://www.pnas.org/content/112/27/8250

Quote:Evidence from three studies reveals a critical difference in self-control as a function of political ideology. Specifically, greater endorsement of political conservatism (versus liberalism) was associated with greater attention regulation and task persistence. Moreover, this relationship is shown to stem from varying beliefs in freewill; specifically, the association between political ideology and self-control is mediated by differences in the extent to which belief in freewill is endorsed, is independent of task performance or motivation, and is reversed when freewill is perceived to impede (rather than enhance) self-control. Collectively, these findings offer insight into the self-control consequences of political ideology by detailing conditions under which conservatives and liberals are better suited to engage in self-control and outlining the role of freewill beliefs in determining these conditions.

I don't think there is much doubt that believing in free will has advantages. Ignorance after all they say is bliss.

I think humanity has evolved to a crossroads, do we face the reality of who we are, or carry on in our comfortable existence.

But when I look at our broken down world, I know that only embracing reality can possibly be a way ahead, when I look at recent news stories about conservative systems and how they treat women for instance, then I know the status quo is not good enough.

Its time to stop being the normal, and be the extraordinary, even if that change means chaos for a while. After all democracy and equality was paid for with chaos and blood.

In the end I don't believe evolution will allow us to stand still, it certainly hasn't in the past.

Amazing that you guys never notice that evolution made women so that men could dominate them.

You're sorta repulsive, alpha.

There is no free will in the presence of an omniscient god.

At best, you're jerking off.

That is evolution, it's not an intelligent thing, it supports those who are physically the strongest and more able to impose their will. Amazing that your god (supposedly an intelligence) would endorse it or make it that way though, seems he too is at the mercy of survival of the fittest.

The point is now it is being challenged and we can look forward I hope to a better future for both our young men and women. It wont be easy though, truth never is.

Yeah very few people have ever argued that we should base our morals off of evolution. Evolution is not the atheist's god.

In my experience it is the complete opposite.

In the BDSM scene (which includes Christian BDSM), female submissives are rare and male subs are a dime a dozen because there are so many of them. There are far more male subs than male doms.

And you can't explain this as being about sex because it doesn't happen in a BDSM club. It's about the need to dominate or to submit.

It seems that comes up quite a bit (in my experience), for those trying to find an objective basis for morality from an atheistic viewpoint.
