Yeah, there's that, AT. The deductibles on offer are so high that the insurance would be essentially useless.

I'd be assed-out otherwise; the plan at my workplace is far too expensive for me. Can't, or don't? Average spending on Christmas gifts was over $900 the last two years. People need to forego the crap for a couple years and build some savings. The US needs to go to either: - a high-deductible system. This would reduce premiums and presumably reduce unnecessary tests, since people will be paying more out of pocket. - a single-payer system. The current system is ridiculous. Auto insurance doesn't pay for every oil change. Home insurance doesn't pay for normal wear and tear. They just protect you from catastrophic loss. Yet, we expect health insurance to kick in every time we do anything health related.
Yeah the Insurance here basically sucks.(for most people) I get Medicaid because I have a disability. I'd like to see the US switch to something where everybody gets something similar. It's not the disabled people on medicaid that are keeping people from having better insurance, it's closed mindedness in both Congress and the voters.
The obstacle isn't money as single payer saves trillions of dollars over 10 years. Not too many people can come up with a few thousand bucks out of pocket. I'm generally conservative and favor a small government, but I'm good with single-payer, maily because I think offering health care to all is simply the humane thing to do. I'm willing to pay more taxes for it, myself. (January 27, 2018 at 5:22 pm)Thumpalumpacus Wrote:(January 27, 2018 at 4:50 pm)alpha male Wrote: Can't, or don't? It's quite bizarre to me how unwilling people are to see a tax increase for something that can benefit so many people, probably including themselves. Especially with the logic that they "don't want to pay for other people's insurance." Do they even know what insurance is or how it works? Of course rhen one could argue, "Well I choose to purchase insurance. I don't want the government to force me to pay for others'." But you already pay taxes for many things that you don't use. The federal highway that stretches across North Dakota is of little use to me as a New Yorker but I'm still paying for it. The difference between a federal highway in North Dakota and health insurance is that it's not possible for a life-altaring emergency to force you to rely on a federal highway in North Dakota. I've seen a couple of conservatives on Twitter with a few thousand followers who have crusaded against "socialist health care" and then the next month put up a GoFundMe because they got into a car crash and declared bankruptcy after receiving their medical bills. Everybody is going to struggle with these costs at one point in their life. Whether it's a car accident, cancer etc. My father has very good insurance yet my transplant still costed quite a bit, at least relative to how much my family makes. I personally pay just over $100 out of pocket for my anti rejection meds every month*. A little tough on an intern's "salary." I'm willing to pay more taxes for it, myself. That's right. Our taxes pay for others every day, be it good roads, firefighting outfits, or general defense. There's a dipshit I interact with somtimes on another forum who for the last seven years -- literally -- has been singing the plaint of "why you want property taxes?" Well, mabye it's because you live out in the middle of nowhere and saving you from yourself is more expensive, y'know. Taxes are a form of insurance. We pay taxes to fund police departments, and that reduces our risk (ideally!) of having crime brought to our doorstep. We pay taxes to fund the Roads & Services crews, because shitty roads kill people. And do the paying public a favor, don't visit emergency rooms, and go easy on asking for donations, because quite frankly those donations don't cover the need nearly at all as it is and your gofundme campaigmnis sucking dollars out of that trough too. I'll pay a little more each year on taxes, I'm good. If you've ever helped a cancer patient out in a jam, you know exactly how shitty it is. Arguing that this should be voluntary charity is nice and well ... but wait until your ass is on the line. You'd better hope people are better than they seem. RE: Conservatives have more self-control

So much to go over here
1. No there is plenty of evidence to suggest that in humans the male is not suppose to be dominant . 2. The expression of emotions like sadness is not a weakness . And the lack of is not strength 3. In plenty of species the female is dominant 4. Evolution only gets us to empathy and pre moralities 5. Rape in species is far from common. And the contrary elaborate shows of affection is quite common . 6. No long term social programs do not breed poverty that's bullshit . Not properly implementing them does . 7. A left that believes in a government programs rather then directly giving a check is more effective (Ahole is a dumbass) 8. Conservatives on this site are just as likely to go hysterical as anyone . 9. Charity can never be sufficient. And the notion of "force " when considering taxes is off . 10 . The fact the sexes evolved as a result of procreation . Does not imply rape . Plenty of species do the contrary . 11. Single payer is the best system of healthcare .
Seek strength, not to be greater than my brother, but to fight my greatest enemy -- myself.

I know there's already 16 pages, but hearing the title I can only think one thing. How many domestic terrorist groups are there that identify as conservative, compared to liberal? Pretty sure there's more of the former, meaning they do not have more self control in general.
