Maybe America should follow the example of first world countries where no one would even contemplate having guns in schools and see how they managed it.

Or you can all just debate it as if it's an undiscovered country that you are contemplating heading into.

YOU ARE WRONG.

Quote:...a study of global mass-shooting incidents from 2009 to 2015 by the Crime Prevention Research Center, headed by economist John Lott, shows the U.S. doesn't lead the world in mass shootings. In fact, it doesn't even make the top 10, when measured by death rate per million population from mass public shootings.

So who's tops? Surprisingly, Norway is, with an outlier mass shooting death rate of 1.888 per million (high no doubt because of the rifle assault by political extremist Anders Brevik that claimed 77 lives in 2011). No. 2 is Serbia, at just 0.381, followed by France at 0.347, Macedonia at 0.337, and Albania at 0.206. Slovakia, Finland, Belgium, and Czech Republic all follow. Then comes the U.S., at No. 11, with a death rate of 0.089.

That's not all. There were also 27% more casualties from 2009 to 2015 per mass shooting incident in the European Union than in the U.S.

"There were 16 cases where at least 15 people were killed," the study said. "Out of those cases, four were in the United States, two in Germany, France, and the United Kingdom."

"But the U.S. has a population four times greater than Germany's and five times the U.K.'s, so on a per-capita basis the U.S. ranks low in comparison — actually, those two countries would have had a frequency of attacks 1.96 (Germany) and 2.46 (UK) times higher."

Whoa, you were a bad kid lol.

More like I was a neglected kid with an alcoholic parent and teachers who didn't give a shit, but I had a bad streak too. Tongue

That's awful... Sad

I'd say you turned out quite alright though! Smile

That sounds like what Pa is looking at. Single entrance with metal detectors, and an armed guard. They described it as simalar to what would be seen at a government building.

So for the sake of argument let's say this was done.  You have spent a shitload of money and not deprived a single psycho of his assault weapon but you have turned schools into fortresses.  Congratulations.

Now, what do you do when one of them says "Fuck that.... I'll ambush a school bus instead."  50-60 kids in a nice contained spot.  Open up on the driver and then just blast away.  What's your next move?  Armed guards on every school bus?   That wouldn't help.  The guard would be just one more target and would quickly find that his handgun was pretty fucking worthless against an AR-15.   How about a machine gun turret on the top of every school bus so the guard could have a 360 degree field of fire?  Don't like that?  How about armor plating and bullet proof glass for every school bus?  But don't raise taxes on the rich to pay for it.

Let's say you accomplish that.  Each school bus is now an armored personnel carrier.  What's to stop a determined shooter from simply shooting up the bus stop while the kids are standing there?  Now what do you do?  Put an armed guard at every bus stop in the country.

The problem is not easy access to guns OR mental health.  It is easy access to guns AND mental health.  And here's the part that the gun nuts hate.  Gun control is actually the easier part of that equation but one without the other is simply a waste of time and money.  This country has too many guns and too many nuts.

100,000 schools. 2 armed guards per school. 200,000 people making 20,000 = 4,000,000,000.

4 billion to maybe prevent, what, 20 deaths a year?

If you're in law enforcement you're going to get paid by the government regardless of what particular job you have. If they weren't working at a school, they'd be working somewhere else, also getting paid by our tax dollars.

That's just bullshit, pure and simple. You're talking either additional hires or short changing current enforcement. You can't just magically make 200,000 armed guards out of nothing. Here in Minneapolis, if you took regular cops off the force, first you'd be doubling the cost, as well as reducing the effective police force by 19 percent. Yeah, no. You're simply dreaming.

Can't speak for everywhere but in Arizona the police agencies are whining that they cannot hire enough cops for what they have to do now.

Quote:Arizona police agencies in desperate need of officers, looking to hire hundreds

In addition the inability of the Border Patrol to meet hiring goals has reached legendary proportions out here.

And what do you suggest, Neo? Feeding them stories about how it's okay to rape, murder, and steal other people's land so long as the voices in our head say it's okay?

I don't know why I left Australia. Everything is backwards and upside down. Maybe if firearms here had the barrel facing the holder.

You said it Minn. Who was it who said, "The definition of absurdity is repeating the same behavior over and over expecting a different result." We've done "Sell more and arm everyone" it does not work.

And I never get a good answer as to how many firearms would be enough? America already has more firearms than citizens. What would be enough? 1 billion guns? 10 billion guns? We manufacture firearms like candy and hand them out like candy.
