I can;t see our current admin doing or saying (or staying any veto) no matter what israel does.  That was, after all..one of the Trumpsters campaign promises.  It;s uncanny, really, the ones he manages to keep and the ones he doesn;t.

To all intents and purposes, Saudi Arabia and Israel are de facto allies in the struggle against Iran's rising influence in the region. It's a developing but highly sensitive relationship, but every so often there is a hint of what may be going on beneath the surface.

I think we'd see much better results if America had a decent leader who would condemn Israel for such actions.  If Israel keeps getting away with this sort of thing, it'll only strengthen anti-western mentality among Arabs.  How does it look to the moderate Arabs to see Israel get away with murdering a woman who only wanted to save lives.  What kind of people does it make for those who can't condemn war crimes?

Instead, we have cowards who are afraid of criticizing Israel, and people who'd rather be their lap dog than a watchdog.  Hamas deserves condemning for all the stuff they do.  Israel deserves condemning too.  Both are terrible groups, and I can't support either of them.

"Death to Iran" hasn;t been any sort of motto for the israeli state..nor have they been loading up civvies with bombs to kill civvies.  No peace or accord is possible between nations when one set of the proposed negotiators refuses to recognize the right of the other to exist.

Let me ask you this, why would you cooperate with the establishment of a state that takes the destruction of your own state to be a founding principle..on the borders of your state..when you;re already threatened by other states who've had the same aim since the day you were declared a state, that you've already fought wars with for that very reason?  What about any of that seems acceptable?  I;m not asking you whether or not the israelis are a bunch of nice guys, or for you to sign off on the many dick moves they make.  Only asking you why this seems so difficult to comprehend?

I wouldn;t, like I said..I understand why they would pick up a gun or rig a bomb.  I;m noting that resorting to terrorism is counterproductive and squanders whatever moral high ground they may be able to purchase. That they do this at the behest of front groups from other regions is the really tragic part. The people stirring up intifada really dont give a shit about palestinians, no more so than israel seems to. They were seen as a useful way to attack israel from within.

That;s the cynical part about launching rockets (or, really, any attack from the soft cover of civilians), from a combatants point of view. You know that the state is going to respond with deadly force, you know there will be collateral in the neighborhoods you fired from...but you don;t care, because you;ll press those dead civilians into your cause after the fact. Parading their corpses before the world and potential recruits for the next round of attacks.

Personally, I;m all out of fucks to give for asymmetric action. The losers in the conflict between jihadists and the state are the palestinians and israelis. In a sad realization of the times we live in, though..this is the future of warfare. Not battles for air control or a stiff firefight between soldiers in a field...but between the forces of the state and combatants leveraging civilians as cover then bitching when their cover gets shot to shit.

Personally, I;d respect them more as combatants if they at least tried to hit targets of military value, rather than hitting civvies to produce terror. There would still be collateral...but that is the difference between a terrorist and a freedom fighter, after all.

Part of the problem, I think, with criticism of Israel in the West is a fear of being labelled anti-semitic.  Frequently criticism of Israel has led to others immediately jumping on the "nazi" or "Jew hater" bandwagon and attempting to denigrate the person to shut them up.

It has happened to me.  Once to the point where I emailed the Simon Weisenthal Centre asking them if they considered criticism of Israel to be anti-semitic (and included exactly what I had said).

To their credit they got back to me fairly promptly that what I said was not construed as anti-semitic in any way.

But you will still get Israel apologists screaming racism at anything they perceive as criticism of their favourite nation.  And many people in the West, politicians in particular, avoid criticism for that reason.

And remember, every time there has been a vote to criticise Israel or impose sanctions, the US plays it's magical  VETO card.

Israel got the whole weight of the British & American media backing its formation during & after WW2, after all it was the strong corner for Britian, France & Russia in the Sykes-Picot treaty, and then it became the American bunker in the Middle East. It's the tip of the spear now for any American plan to harvest the Middle East off its resources, Trump's "ultimate deal" is just an example of that.
