https://www.npr.org/2018/06/19/621065383...the-border

A two-decade-old court settlement, the Flores settlement, and a law called the Trafficking Victims Protection Reauthorization Act both specify how the government must treat migrant children.

They require that migrant children be placed in "the least restrictive environment" or sent to live with family members. They also limit how long families with children can be detained; courts have interpreted that limit as 20 days.

So the legal options for the government are:
1) Release the family into the US and give them a court date.  A date many just won't show up to.
2) Detain until the court date, which means you have to split up the family, because only the adults can be detained for that long.

Because our law enforcement has such a great track record of treating people in cages well. There aren't any stories about people dying in a cell from a medical emergency or dehydration as cops watch on, right?

What is the conclusion you came to based on your observation cops sometimes abuse people that are detained?  We know what you don't want them doing.  How should they be handling it?  Just let the kids roam free in an open field while processing them?  Don't detain anyone, and let them all in?  There is a practical problem with a limited number of solutions.  And most people find all of the solutions unacceptable, which is a luxury of being a random person on the internet.

Canada, for example, let's the parents choose whether or not their kid goes to foster care or stays in immigration jail with them.  Although, it's been reported that they promote foster care, as jailing children, apparently, isn't healthy for kids psychologically either.

Less beatey, less rapey, less kidnappy.

You mean..like at a park..like all the rest of our kids?  Yeah...that would be fantastic.

Quote:Don't detain anyone, and let them all in?
Sure.  It;s not like we -have- to imprison people while we process their applications for citizenship or asylum. I know, I know "hurr durr theyre criminals! criminal aliens!" Yeah....so, if I ended up indefinitely detained and lost my kids because of a misdemeanor.......we might start thinking there was something wrong in the world.

Costs more to jail em than it would to put em up at a hotel. Or..gasp, let them get jobs and add to our gdp.
I am the Infantry. I am my country’s strength in war, her deterrent in peace. I am the heart of the fight… wherever, whenever. I carry America’s faith and honor against her enemies. I am the Queen of Battle. I am what my country expects me to be, the best trained Soldier in the world. In the race for victory, I am swift, determined, and courageous, armed with a fierce will to win. Never will I fail my country’s trust. Always I fight on…through the foe, to the objective, to triumph overall. If necessary, I will fight to my death. By my steadfast courage, I have won more than 200 years of freedom. I yield not to weakness, to hunger, to cowardice, to fatigue, to superior odds, For I am mentally tough, physically strong, and morally straight. I forsake not, my country, my mission, my comrades, my sacred duty. I am relentless. I am always there, now and forever. I AM THE INFANTRY! FOLLOW ME!

I for one would be in favor of an open border with Mexico. The objections to Mexican immigration are largely based on prejudice and myth.

Keep them with their parents above all else, because it's kind of creepy to take a kid away from their mother. Whatever else you do with them is beside the point.

Canada is different. Or should I ask Min to do some research on Fucking Canada Cops, eh?

And no one deserves to have their children taken from them for a misdemeanor.

Boru

So change it to a felony.  Citizens get separated from their kids everyday when they get busted for suspicion of criminal activity.  The fact that the illegals are in the country is 100% proof that they are criminals.  If the parents bring their kids with them they are running an organized crime syndicate.

Yeah, if we make it a felony, then we're justified in separating children from their parents; right and wrong can be had from the tip of a pen.

I'd be content just charging them with kidnapping. If detention centers are bad enough on adults that people wouldn't want to subject children to it, then maybe we should look at improving detention centers.

There are alternate solutions.  The illegal aliens could go to Costa Rica, Panama, or some other country, like Vatican City.  They don't have to come to the US.  Or they could overthrow their governments and run a better operation.

In case you've missed it we have citizens who need assistance more than the illegal aliens do.  Charity begins at home.
