But, Khem, haven't you read the fundie apologetics on that? Jesus was using deceit there... to save his own ass. People were trying to trick him into saying something that would get him arrested. Pretty weird considering that the whole plan was for him to be arrested and crucified from the git-go. But, hey, "the Lord works in mysterious ways."

If it was a custom order, presumably they could have just refused without giving a reason?

I've been trying to think what would happen to the baker if he made cakes for gay people. Would straights boycott his shop? Would he go to Hell? Would his wife turn into a pillar of salt? I once sold a mandolin to a gay man - it was a birthday gift for his boyfriend. Lightning bolts have been conspicuous by their absence.

I don't think the motive of the cake should matter at all. It's probably true that the customer who goes to that specific bakeshop is trying to stir shit up, but so is the bake shop.
Motive for having a cake should be irrelevant. I was split on this issue before, because I don't necessarily think you should be able to force goods and services from unwilling people, but what, do you need to fill out a correct form to get a cake? The motive of you ordering a cake shouldn't matter. I'm almost certain these people would deny Atheist weddings a cake. What else could be more against their religious beliefs? I grew up in a small town with a single baker, local monopolies like that exist everywhere and that means that whole groups of people will be denied access to certain goods or services. Do we need a seperate baker for each religion in each town? Seems ridiculous. This very much this

I am a rookie at management but... but... but isn't the 1st and only commandment of any commerce owner to sell your product for the paying customer? In order to make money? Jeez. Perhaps the free advertizement might cut it, but if I was a baker, I would rather be known as someone that makes real good cakes for everyone. Everyone should have cake. For a price. And the best cake of all

Well, I wouldn't sell ammo to a 12 yo, so that hard-and-fast rule isn't hard-and-fast.
