The Never-Addressed reasons that lead me to Atheism
|
What? Chimera7 you left Christianity? How is that possible when SteveII is constantly claiming that people are more and more converting to Christianity and because of that Christianity is growing? It seems you prove that SteveII is full of doo doo.
teachings of the Bible are so muddled and self-contradictory that it was possible for Christians to happily burn heretics alive for five long centuries. It was even possible for the most venerated patriarchs of the Church, like St. Augustine and St. Thomas Aquinas, to conclude that heretics should be tortured (Augustine) or killed outright (Aquinas). Martin Luther and John Calvin advocated the wholesale murder of heretics, apostates, Jews, and witches. - Sam Harris, "Letter To A Christian Nation"

It's amazing 'science' always seems to 'find' whatever it is funded for, and never the oppsite. Drich.
Religions are real. Their gods, not so much.
Welcome aboard, new blood.
At the age of five, Skagra decided emphatically that God did not exist. This revelation tends to make most people in the universe who have it react in one of two ways - with relief or with despair. Only Skagra responded to it by thinking, 'Wait a second. That means there's a situation vacant.'

Welcome! And welcome to reality!
I watched your video. Overall, it's pretty good. My only comments are, you seem to be equating all theists with the rejection of evolution. When debating theists, you have to watch this sort of thing, because plenty of theists accept evolution. Also, even though most atheists understand the reason for, "we are all atheists with regards to all the same gods, except we take it one god further" type of argument, theists are quite unimpressed by it. In other words, when getting into a debate with a theist, it is best ask them what they believe, and (most importantly) why they believe it. Let them define their gods, before arguing against their position. You don't want to erect any straw men. You might find yourself arguing against a god they don't believe in. You'd believe if you just opened your heart" is a terrible argument for religion. It's basically saying, "If you bias yourself enough, you can convince yourself that this is true." If religion were true, people wouldn't need faith to believe it -- it would be supported by good evidence. RE: The Never-Addressed reasons that lead me to Atheism

Common misconception. Plenty of theists accept evolution. Which sounds like evolution, but will be rife with caveats and novel use of common seeming language.

In courts you have to present physical evidence, otherwise you will lose the case. It's the same thing here - without physical evidence all you are left with is speculation or guesses. Speculations and guesses doesn't do anything than waste time.
