I'm currently  brushing up on homomorphisms in my abstract algebra studies: IMO, homomorphisms are pretty neat. I must admit that I have a greater appreciation for them now than when I first encountered them a couple of years ago: the extra time that I spent teaching myself proofs has been worth it.  I'm also enjoying how one to one and onto functions tie into homomorphisms: an epimorphism is a homomorphism that is onto, a monomorphism is a homomorphism that is one to one, and an isomorphism is a homomorphism that is one to one and onto.

I admire you for studying this. My study of Abstract Algebra is 35+ years in the past; while getting my BSc in physics, I considered a double major with Applied Mathematics, and took a lot more math classes than most physics majors ever do. But I realized that this would take 2 more years, and by then I had a wife (and a child on the way), so I settled for the BSc and went to work in industry. If I knew then what I know now, I would have pursued a doctorate in mathematics. I'm on the done side of working for a living, and damned if I can even get interested in what I was interested in, then. I think that I'm just burned out. Sad
