Going backwards is not an option.  The "good old days" were, A - not that good and B- gone forever.

Your problem is that you cannot see that which is typical of conservatards.

Conservatives are people who pines for a bygone age when what they imagined to be their own kind enjoyed ingrained privileges they did not need to earn by merit, and wishes to undo all the changes which would have put them on a more equal footing that others whom they would wish to continue to enjoy despising.

They can cloak the real reason for their conservativism behind all sorts of reasonable sounding “principles”, but they hold these principle as sacred as any club they can be used to bash other and yet discarded if called to account for their own actions.

As to service to the country, McCain’s grand father was an admiral in charge of the carrier forces under Helsey. He literally worked himself to death during WWII. The man was down to 70lbs by the end of the war, and yet refused to relinquish his post for sick leave. He was finally ordered to go on sick leave just as japan surrendered. He died a few days later.

I hope that at least some Republicans will remember him, and choose to pick up the torch.

I was going to drop a Trump vid here, but it feels somehow inappropriate to do anything but express my condolences for the Americans in these forums who have lost a good man.

I am old enough to remember the hope of Reagan. I am old enough to remember the cold war, or at least the last days of it, which seem to have re constituted because of 45.

Reagan, in my eyes looking back, was well intended. Ron Jr who is an ardent democrat loved his father, but like me, looks back at it as a well intended man who got suckered.

Considering the not so subtle digs at 45 by both republicans and democrats whom attended, I don't think it would be out of line.

Even Meghan took a blunt swipe at "MAGA"" saying we've always been great.

Hate to burst your bubble but Ray-Gun was the genesis of Dumbfuck. Before Ray-Gun it was possible forthe heirs to the original party to exert a modicum of control over the racists and fundies. After him the racists and fundies were the only games in townfor the party.

Also anybody notice the parallels between both Ray-Gun and Dumfuck. Both were long time Democrats, both were bad actors deluded into thinking they could do stuff, both turned to and were accepted by the fundagelicals despite breaking every rule the fundagelicals enforce, both were war hawks wo were too cowardly to fight and finally as presidents both committed treason.

He did not give into to hate and stupid conspiracy theories, even thought it might have gained him votes.  He had too much integrity for that, and he seems to really have respected Obama.

Problem with the whole "McCain didn't use the race card against Obama" thing is that he was as happy to have his surrogates use it as Hitler was allowing his subordinates sign the orders to construct the gas chambers at Auschwitz.

If he was unhappy with the tactic he'd have come out against it at the start, not attheend when he was told by his own party he had lost, even with the vote stealing.

The phrase in the radio death notices round hereabouts used be "he was deeply regretted by ....". Can't but think that phrase is appropriate with McCain.
