Brian made it to Durham...definitely not western NC.
I wasn't going to be that specific.
Brian already said here and on TTA he is in Durham...it's not a secret.

Well, he won't be there much longer, the roads are clear. He'll be rolling in five.

I know I love it there. I vacationed down in Frisco. I never did get to try one of those pickle flavored popsicles from that sandwich shop next to the tackle shop in Frisco. Open 12 hours a week = not good for business.
I know I talked to a realtor and got a bunch of listings for houses up for sale down there. And there are a lot of houses that are unique in color.
I know that it's pointless to try and dodge crabs that scuttle across the road at 4am
I know that cops strictly enforce the speed limits and that people are assholes when it comes to driving through standing water.
The roads in the neighborhood we stayed at, were in need of repair. Mostly dirt road with a bit of concrete sprinkled here or there. They'd be better off using crush and run instead.
And I know that I plan on going back there one day.
Great place to visit...hard place to live.
I was born in Buxton and had family scattered all through the villages from Hatteras up.
Lots of good memories of the people and the place.

I hear it's quite expensive to live there. Especially during non-tourist season.

He reports that a clear path is available. I told him to listen for banjos.
On "17" northwest of Wilmington. No banjos yet. He could walk home from there. Cat wouldn't like it, but still.

It's not so much that it's expensive but ways to make money are severely limited during non-tourist season. Without restaurants and stores needing to be staffed and rentals needing to be cleaned and no one to pay to take them fishing...it can get pretty tough to make it to the next surge of visitors.
