Seriously, Neo. I thought you were better than this. I reject theism up and down because, to me, atheism seems far more plausible. But I have done my fair share of work to present theism as a logically tenable position, and have caught quite a bit of flack for it. If you are going to portray the discussion as a "line drawn in the sand" then I implore you to look at the ignoramuses that find themselves on your side of the line.
It is atheism's great shame that a scant few of us are as ignorant as the average theist. (After all, we DO hold ourselves to a higher intellectual standard.) If you want to throw that in our faces, then fuck you.
Because it's true, I will always hold the belief that quite a few theists are reasonable. But the vast majority aren't. And in the OP, you've basically said you proudly stand shoulder-to-shoulder with this ignorant majority.
Excellent post, Neo-Scholastic. Highly informative.

You mean as opposed to being indoctrinated from birth by religious parents and fed misinformation by pulpit demagogues? What world do you live in, mate?
Quote:The one's I know in RL however don't seem to be angry, Hmmm...I guess there must be like 10,000 different kinds of self-identified atheist-types so really how can we be expected to keep track of them or why they think the way they do.
Seeing as atheists are only united under one banner, the not believing in deities, you’re not that far off here at least.
Quote:They don't see that their anger is just a result of the internal cognitive dissidence from there needing to be a first cause and their worldview not being able to provide one
Not only are you incredibly arrogant in thinking that you know the reason for someone else’s emotion, you’re so off base logically it’s quite funny. Where’d your first cause come from Stev-o?

Who says?
Quote:that morality seems objective, but it can't be.
I’m a proponent of subjective morality personally, and frankly your version of objective morality seems to be subjective as well. Or is morality outiside of your gods purview? It’s one or the other sweet cheeks.
Quote:It must be hard to live with all that 'willful ignorance'.
Christ it’s like you have no sense of irony.
Quote:It's only a matter of time before atheists realize that science does not support their worldview. Education is the key! Atheism will continue its current decline in the world and someday soon we may be rid of its pernicious effects on culture and it will be relegated to a footnote as a failure on every level.
You know what’s hilarious about this? The suggestion that atheism is on the decline. I wonder why that percentage keeps going higher year after year... it’s a mystery.
The rest of your tripe isn’t worth even the pithiest of responses. If my eyes could roll any harder I’m sure my retinas would detach. Careful bob he will write a small novel at you of non points filled to the brim with projections and general pompous bravado about about how uninformed you are because you don't fall for his apologist prattle .

And (as stupid of an atheist as I may be) if my thread title was an interrogative, I'd put a question mark at the end of it.

We can pretty much say anything in his threads, because he has most or all of us on block.

teachings of the Bible are so muddled and self-contradictory that it was possible for Christians to happily burn heretics alive for five long centuries. It was even possible for the most venerated patriarchs of the Church, like St. Augustine and St. Thomas Aquinas, to conclude that heretics should be tortured (Augustine) or killed outright (Aquinas). Martin Luther and John Calvin advocated the wholesale murder of heretics, apostates, Jews, and witches. - Sam Harris, "Letter To A Christian Nation"
