Child leases are for toddlers, though.

If you're still 'swatting' (nice euphemism) your kids at 9 or 10 years old, you've failed as a parent.

If they get to nine years old, and still don't know to not run into traffic, or whatever, then something definitely went wrong in parenting.

No, stuff like computer games. That had immense power over my eldest son. He even wrote on Facebook (my wife saw it) one time that if he ever had kids he'd never ground them from their computer games. I guess he's traumatized.
Is shooting their dog ANYWHERE in the punishment regime or are you just a weak parent?

Oh, dear..That wasn't in reference to me, was it?
Because I thought made I it clear that wasn't actually a proponent of spanking children. I only stated that I recognize that there are extenuating circumstances where parents' may deem spanking necessary as a sub-optimal choice when reasonable attempts at non-corporal discipline fail IF a kid's behavior puts himself or others risk...And that I'm not willing label them child abusers for that.
If you'd like for me to adopt an absolutist approach to spanking and immediately regard anyone who's so much popped their kid's hand for trying reach inside a hot oven as a vicious child abuser, I'm sorry but can't I do that. I think such a blanket assessment would be wildly unfair.
Of course, if that wasn't directed at me, then...Oops! My bad.

Who was talking about running into traffic, though?
I was specifically referring to older kids who enjoy wandering off and going "exploring" without telling anyone where they're going. Then I poked a little fun at your toddler leash suggestion.

Again, I was referring to a hypothetical, but if you'd like to LIE and attribute that hypothetical to me personally and imply that I'm a child abuser just so you can feel good about yourself, go right ahead.
Personally, I think that pretty fucked up.
So fucked up in fact--if we used real names here, I'd sue your ass for libelous defamation if you dared to push that narrative much further.
And I'd win.
With that, I'll be taking my leave of this thread.
Have a nice day.

That's a brutal turn.
I am the Infantry. I am my country’s strength in war, her deterrent in peace. I am the heart of the fight… wherever, whenever. I carry America’s faith and honor against her enemies. I am the Queen of Battle. I am what my country expects me to be, the best trained Soldier in the world. In the race for victory, I am swift, determined, and courageous, armed with a fierce will to win. Never will I fail my country’s trust. Always I fight on…through the foe, to the objective, to triumph overall. If necessary, I will fight to my death. By my steadfast courage, I have won more than 200 years of freedom. I yield not to weakness, to hunger, to cowardice, to fatigue, to superior odds, For I am mentally tough, physically strong, and morally straight. I forsake not, my country, my mission, my comrades, my sacred duty. I am relentless. I am always there, now and forever. I AM THE INFANTRY! FOLLOW ME!

Running into traffic was just an example of wandering off. What I'm trying to say is, by the time they're nine or so, they shouldn't need a leash, because they should have learned by then not to do that. If they still haven't learned then just tell them they haven't proven they can be trusted with being unsupervised. You have to explain it to them, because they're going to want to come off as mature and trustworthy. My nieces are just over that age, and they never ran into the woods when they came to visit at the lake.

Meh, maybe... but you still have to keep them from wandering into the road.......

Sorry you left the thread.
Sometimes 'you' means 'people in general' and not 'Athene personally and specifically'.
But, for whatever it's worth, yes - I think people who spank their children (and when I say spank, I mean 'spank') are abusive parents. Deal with it.
