Age of Deconversion
RE: Age of Deconversion
Why would you be?
I am the Infantry. I am my country’s strength in war, her deterrent in peace. I am the heart of the fight… wherever, whenever. I carry America’s faith and honor against her enemies. I am the Queen of Battle. I am what my country expects me to be, the best trained Soldier in the world. In the race for victory, I am swift, determined, and courageous, armed with a fierce will to win. Never will I fail my country’s trust. Always I fight on…through the foe, to the objective, to triumph overall. If necessary, I will fight to my death. By my steadfast courage, I have won more than 200 years of freedom. I yield not to weakness, to hunger, to cowardice, to fatigue, to superior odds, For I am mentally tough, physically strong, and morally straight. I forsake not, my country, my mission, my comrades, my sacred duty. I am relentless. I am always there, now and forever. I AM THE INFANTRY! FOLLOW ME!

Yeah but you might start missing the hymns.

Not necessarily. I know a person who plays organ music for a church, and another who enjoys Gregorian Chants, for example. And if John 6IX Breezy ain't an atheist by New Year's, he's a bot.

You're asking the right questions, Breezy. At some point you will realize that religious myth is just that. I had a lot of rage over the time that I spent under that boot heel, which I'm sure a lot of atheists feel. Mainly because I didn't actually accept internally that I was an atheist until I was 53, in '05 (in spite of not believing for decades). But then I got past it, because it isn't worth the candle to fret over it. YMMV. Good luck on your journey, wherever it leads.
If you get to thinking you’re a person of some influence, try ordering somebody else’s dog around.

It does seem rare for someone to view God as loving and forgiving, but fictional nonetheless. It seems to come with the territory that once you think God doesn't exist you have to view him as evil.

The god of the bible is evil, it is written that way.
But there were other gods who were either good or neutral so the idea of god is not always evil. So it depends.

You can fix ignorance, you can't fix stupid.

The God of the Bible was not written as evil. To the contrary, he was written as a God who hates evil. That is how he is described continually through Scripture; and that is how the authors intended you to interpret him.

You are, of course, free to disagree with that description and argue in favor of another; the same way you can argue that Napoleon from Animal Farm was actually the hero of the tale. But you should at least remember that such interpretations are not canon and not the way they were written.

Comparing primitive literature to modern literature, it becomes apparent how authors in the past failed at properly demonstrating anything beyond their own time period.

Going by what we currently understand of interpreting literature, god is only a good deity to those within that time period. Beyond that, he is a villain.

I'm about to turn 30 and stop believing in god a little over a year ago when I was 28, but in retrospect I had doubts and I don't think I truly believed since I was about 18 that's when I stopped going to church and didn't believe the bible was true.
God loves you unconditionally.

The God of the Bible was written as a capricious Middle Eastern potentate requiring frequent praise and steady tribute, because in their minds, that was how rulers acted.
I'm not anti-Christian. I'm anti-stupid.

Hmm it seems to me the God of the Bible was written almost in opposition to earthly potentates; it even warns Israel against having kings precisely because of how rulers tend to act:

"...you shall solemnly warn them and show them the ways of the king who shall reign over them [...] But the people refused to obey the voice of Samuel. And they said, 'No! But there shall be a king over us, that we also may be like all the nations, and that our king may judge us and go out before us and fight our battles' [...] And the Lord said to Samuel, 'Obey their voice and make them a king'” (1 Samuel 8, ESV).

In opposition to -other- potentates, as potentates are always in opposition to each other. Look at you wheedling. Honestly, you know everything about the deconversion process you might ever care to ask, lol.
