Source ? And there are a number of issues here . 1 this only says one state 2. I only says ICU not how many people are actually sick 3. How did they figure out the suicides were caused by the lockdown 4. How much unemployment do you think there will be when infections spike aain from reckless reopening ?

Even doctors that are just presenting data that doesn't match the agenda are ostracized and eliminated. This isn't science
It's as anti-science and dogmatic as a religion now. What Dr Fauci says is infallible and anyone showing dissent will be sent to the gulag

No one making these decisions believes that people are going to willingly come out of their homes at the present moment. The economy isn't going to rally by itself. That's why we have to be induced by having the safety net that we pay for pulled out from under us.

They're betting on people being willing to throw granny off a cliff so that they don't default on their mortgage. They know that they've created such appalling conditions for these laborers that it seems to be their only credible option.

Funny thing is, while trying to find the source for his "suicides by lockdown in my state" statistic (I have not), I found this extrapolation of potential deaths from COVID in Australia under three scenarios: just go back to normal (288,454), slowly achieving herd immunity in a way that does not overwhelm the health care system (147,710), and plans to use strict measures to eradicate the virus, something Agnostico has spent all this time vehemently opposing (34,023). For the record, yes, this includes deaths from suicide and loneliness (they extrapolate 2,761 from suicide and a further 4,015 from loneliness from the added unemployment rate, which they estimate to top out at 15%). So, here we have an actual source explaining the calculus of why Agnostico's preferred plan does not work, they show off their own sources, and, as an added bonus, it's from (and applying data for) his own home country.

I'm not going to pretend to know the exact balance we'll need to strike to keep business alive while keeping the population from dying, but, frankly, I've talked enough with Agnostico on this and other threads to know that it's a very bad idea to base advice in this area on the words of someone who thinks that deadly diseases stop being a threat like this:

And just for context, I decided to try the numbers for the US. While I’m not totally up to it, I found one estimate that claimed the long-term deaths from suicide in the US could be about 75,000 because of the pandemic. The only one I could do was the “let it run wild” scenario with 68.1% catching it. I can’t tell what the other variables are. But applied to the population of the US, 330 million people, with a 5.31% death rate (the estimate for COVID mortality in the US), it looks like this could easily lead to a death toll of about 12 million (3.6% of the population.)

I’m more for finding a balance between yet another depression and the Pale Horseman than “stay at home until there’s a vaccine, which will take until next year at the absolute minimum” but, frankly, between that and just letting it go wild, it’s no comparison.
