Its because of the daughters of the confederacy.

McPherson has said that the present-day UDC promotes a white supremacist and neo-Confederate agenda,[49] saying

The Southern Poverty Law Center considers the UDC as part of the Neo-Confederate movement that began in the early 1980s, which the Center states is "a reactionary conservative ideology that has made inroads into the Republican Party from the political right, and overlaps with the views of white nationalists and other more radical extremist groups."[51][52] In August 2018, its website still stated that "Slaves, for the most part, were faithful and devoted. Most slaves were usually ready and willing to serve their masters."[53]

It is wrong and illegal for mobs to destroy public or privately owned statues. It doesn't matter what they believe the statue represents or what they think the historical character believed.

I doubt very much that even Roosevelt would have approved of a statue of him. The one of Lincoln that’s come under fire isn’t so much about Lincoln, per se, as it is the way he’s represented.

Where is the ‘civil right’ to put up a statue commemorating enemies of the United States on public property?

In the constitution. If you think that Abraham Lincoln or whoever was an enemy of the US, let's have a hearing and decide on it. I wonder if most of the people tearing down statues have any idea about what these figures stand for.
