Also ran payroll for the first time for my new job. I am liking this working from home thing quite a bit. Now that I have been through some training I will only have to go to the office once a week, at most. Boss wants to meet with me once a month. Kinda liking it.
Looking into buying a new computer so I can use it for work and reserve my laptop for my stuff...trying to figure out what to get. Now that I don't have a car payment, a new computer is within the budget. And it will feed my love of new electronics/gadgets.
Cool about the car! Why isn't your employer furnishing a computer for you to do their work on?
She would if I asked. But I wouldn't mind having a computer in the home office as a permanent fixture that I can do with as I please. For now I go back and forth from the living room to the office with my laptop.
She did buy me a nice scanner that much quicker than my all-in-one and it scans both sides at the same time.

Isn't what you work on considered proprietary, at some level? Not trying to pick your nose, BTW. My wife's employer was actually looking at employees working from home before the government order came out. Her supervisor even brought her monitors and the interface box to our house! While I don't think mentioning her employer's name is appropriate, I will say that they care about their employees in a way that I never experienced in any company I have EVER worked for.
If you get to thinking you’re a person of some influence, try ordering somebody else’s dog around.

She has said to tell her what I need. I have been there a month and want to make sure that this is going to last a while before she, or I, invest too much. I really would like to have a desktop for the office...or maybe even another laptop as I really like mine. I have been offered monitors they already have at the office that are pretty new. I just am not quibbling too much over a 15 hour a week job.
I do think one thing I am going to buy is an office chair that won't cripple me like the old task chair my son left here when he moved out.
edit - a lot of what I do is work in programs that are in the cloud. The things I keep local are spreadsheets in progress that I upload to Google docs when they are complete.

OK, different work environments I understand. I worked for a defense company for a long time, and even if the information wasn't secret in some way, it had an economic advantage over our competitors. It just seems to me that unless you use that new computer ONLY for your new employer's work, there will be data spillage. If it doesn't involve anyone else's personal information, it's probably a moot point. On a side note, I got in an accident where I was rear-ended in '97. HR sent out a person to evaluate my work station. The building manager got pissed at ME because they had to order ergonomic equipment for me! If you work from home, all that stuff is on your head, and if you're only part time, it's on your wallet. I'm so sick of corporate entities taking advantage of people. I hope it all works out for you.

It's official.
Working from home is great.
No annoying paperwork.
No nurses to remind me of ethics.
No bosses to get in the way.
Soundproof basement...

It's a little money in my pocket and it keeps me using my brain...makes me actually accomplish something every day. It's more for hanging onto this little bit of sanity I have left than it is to put food on the table. After two months of TV, roaming around the intertubz, and napping...I could sense my brain getting a little mushy.
I don't feel as though Granola Girl is taking advantage of me. I appreciate the concern though.

Know what I do when I pay off a car?
I take it home.....
Then go look for another one to buy.
(Currently looking for Saturn #23)
....
But I can quit whenever I want.
Honestly.......

I had only a couple payments left on my old car when that wicked hailed storm destroyed it in 2016. Of course, insurance didn't give me enough for another car so I had to get a new one that came with a sucky car loan. Paying off this car over a year and a half early is a nice feeling. The dealership recently sent me an offer to buy it for half what I paid for it...damn thing has only 37K miles on it and 99% of the time I am the only one in it. I honestly don't think anyone has ever even ridden in the back seat. I will hopefully be able to drive this one for a long time.

Christina may be a ho-bag, but at least she's got good taste in men.
