Trump threaten to flee the country

The former USSR Might have conceivably found a way, through a Seriously enough security breach, to launch an unanswerable nuclear first strike against the US.

The current Russia, on the other hand,  seem unlikely to parley even the gravest, deepest and most broad based security breach, so long as US knows what has been breached, into anything fatal for the US.

The cost of this breach would be small compared to trumpism, or a party so unscrupulous and so unprincipled at the most basic level as to facilitate the reign of trumpism,  remaining major political forces in this country for years or decades.

Interestingly, Russia has no extradition treaty with the US. That's why Snowden ended up there.

Trump would gain immunity. What would Putin gain?

Well, the opportunity to parade him out and claim that Russia respects former presidents and the US does not. Propaganda coup.

To say trump is a threat to the country to which he flees is to suggest it is some extraordinary ability of trump, and not some extraordinarily deep and particular flaw of the United States, that allowed him to do the damage that he did.   I think it is in fact the deep and particular flaw of the US, and not the extraordinary ability of trump, that allowed him to,do his damage,

If trump fled to China, for example, his only threat potential would be to inject substandard raw material Into Chinese prisons’ organ harvesting industry.

Ok, sometimes I say things for comic or rhetorical effect that aren’t meant to be taken seriously and don’t warrant a serious reply. If you’re having trouble sussing these out, I’d be happy to accompany them with a disclaimer.

I'm confused. What exactly special powers/knowledge does Trump have that would benefit Russia and harm America? I'm pretty sure any special access or whatever will be revoked before Biden takes office. Aren't such security steps standard procedure?

Trump likely holds many secrets which would cause grave harm if released to an adversary like Russia. Obviously he won't have access to anything once he's out of office but just revealing policies and procedures related to nukes would be highly dangerous. It's total naivete to think his defection to Russia would be anything but a disaster.

I personally hope there is a black-ops wing of the CIA which would take him down rather than allow that. We're probably in uncharted territory here. There have been some really bad past presidents but I don't think treason was a realistic concern with any of them. It could happen with Trump.

As much as the security folks might like to lobotomize some people after they no longer work with classified information and are debriefed, that's not really possible. If he flees to Russia, he can't be prosecuted for babbling whatever classified information his fevered brain happens to remember. I'm more concerned about AF-1 because of all the crypto gear and technology on board. Some of the gear. like the Identification of Friend or Foe transponder are rigged with ordnance against tampering, but I don't know about the rest of it. But getting hold of key generators and the like would be a true catastrophe, if the Russians can get them figured out because they are used for some serious communications encryption.

I'm hoping that leaving the US is just more BS, and that he doesn't get AF-1 airborne after his expected defeat.

hmm, I'm confident that Trump will be "kept under tabs" after the election results are confirmed, if Biden wins. Anything else would be too high a security risk for the U.S.

The wife and I have already discussed this, even before his comment.

While Donny may or may not leave, we think that Mel and Barron definitely will.
