Pardons only apply to federal crimes. Trump's on the hook for plenty of stuff that doesn't rise to that level.

I've thought about this for awhile. Is there any way he could be stopped from defecting to Russia while still in office? No legal way that I can see.

In the bigger picture, Why would his defecting to russia be a bad thing?
If trump stays in this country, and is convicted and buried in prison, or even just live under a cloud for the rest of his life, half the country under FOX and the trumpian wing of the GOP, which is to say essentially the entire GOP, will shout “deep state” and “political persecution” to the end of time.
If trump defects, FOx and trumpian wing of the Republican Party will forever be known as the party of the greatest traitor in history, and disappear as a political factor. The half of the country that hangs on their every word would be dispirited, Shattered, profoundly discredited in the eyes of good proportion of themselves. Acts to reverse what trump did in office, including stealing Supreme Court seats for the antiprogressive causes, will automatically be seen as necessary for reversing effects of embarrassing effects of criminal foreign manipulation.
Trump defecting to russia is the best, as well as the most fitting, conclusion to the trump era that can be imagined.
It would be the sort of catharsis for which a extremely great price would be very worthwhile indeed.

Hard to bury a guy under a prison if he's hiding in putins underwear...but other than that, sounds great. Finally, something that president arty mcdeals actually could get someone else to pay for - a plane ticket.
