The absurd need for logical proofs for God

It sure is a problem for those of us that understand good standards of evidence.

Your god did not plan very well if he created a system, that would not allow for an actual demonstration of his existence.

So, either your god wants to remain hidden from those of us are not credulous, or he doesn't exist.

A third option is that you people are genuinely dishonest with all the suggestive evidence around you. I already explained how the existence of other minds doesn't meet you "standards of evidence", yet you accept them because you see enough stimuli in your everyday life to warrant an inference to  the best explanation - that my neighbor's behavior is better explained if he were a human being than if he were some weird manifestation of a ghost sent by Satan.

We receive enough a lot of input through our senses around us suggesting design and thoughtful creation, this itself calls for an inference to the best explanation.

The same reason humanity can never know what's beyond the uncertainty principle, can never measure anything smaller than Planck's length, etc. Our knowledge of this universe is limited forever, demonstrably so. Our knowledge of the gods, a fortiori, certainly won't lift off the ground.

(November 22, 2020 at 6:32 pm)Simon Moon Wrote: Sure, maybe Mormonism was not the best example to use.

But that doesn't change the fact both religions make the same unevidenced claims for their prophet.

It's not clear what would convince an atheist of a prophecy to begin with. Any serious discussion about some particular claim made by a prophet can't be carried out, I think, without presupposing the existence of god.

(November 22, 2020 at 6:32 pm)Simon Moon Wrote: I never said I reject all inference. We live our daily lives on inference and induction.

There are great reasons to infer other minds exist.

And what are these great reasons for infering so .....?

Whichever they are, what would they yield to if applied to the universe and all forms of life around you?

(November 22, 2020 at 6:32 pm)Simon Moon Wrote: The bolded part above is far from the only explanations, or hanging point. False dichotomy.

If I see Moses' staff in action, explaining it via a miracle would not even enter my mind.

I would accept that I experienced seeing the staff turn into a snake, but there are many other explanations to account for it, than a miracle.

And in this case, what kind of stimuli, experience, etc. would possibly make you think seriously of a miracle..?

Of course they are. Meanwhile you believe in them anyway.

You believe in the existence of other minds, an unsettled philosophical issue. Why ?

Now apply your same reasons to believe so to the larger set of the universe and creation.

Chances are you don't even understand my "method". Inference to the best explanation is a mental process we rely on everyday, which atheists dishonestly disable when dealing with appearances of design .

@Klorophyll
You’ve already tried that fallacious, dishonest argument with me, or have you forgotten? Some things appear designed and are designed, like cars and buildings, and other things appear designed but are not, like rock formations and snowflakes. Therefore, the appearance of design is an invalid reason to conclude design. Got anything else?

I thought me and Boreaphyll already sorted out FSM as the one true god. Shrug.

Well yes, it is a bit of a puzzler that any self-respecting deity would need a pack of liars, thieves, and con-artists to act as its mouthpiece. And you'd agree with my characterization of these "prophets" except for your own.

Quote:People are generally more convinced and emotionally moved by models, idols, celebrities, than by dry, heavy readings.

Crazy bastards shrieking "Repent! The End Is Nigh!" are a dime a dozen. A talking pillar of incandescent plasma will at least perk my interest.

Quote:When an atheist asks about evidence, his question entails that all what surrounds him and all what he heard about, like the existence of claims of prophecy throughout history, are not evidence.

It's evidence. It just isn't evidence for your particular deity. No more so than it is for any of the thousands of other deities that humans have dreamt up.

Quote:And when he asks about a logical proof

I don't. You lot can't even come up with a rational definition to serve as the basis for a proof. All the while ignoring the fact that arguments are not evidence.

There goes you entire gripe, unfortunately.  You said that people should consider them, but...ofc...you already knew that people did and do.

In any case...I know that other minds exist in the same manner that I know that the universe exists...and the same manner that I know that your god doesn't.

His whole silly point is trying to say" You believe in other minds without X so you should believe Y for the same reason. Even if he could somehow make that work it still wouldn't follow.

Good god, I hope not, because on the one hand that would be a admission that he believes in a god despite having no reason to believe in a god..and on the other...he would just be wrong for thinking that people accept the existence of other minds for no reason and without reservation.

All we can say about design is humans design things because we directly observe them doing so or we find things that we can conclude were man-made. Any assertion anything besides man has ever designed anything is simply an unjustified assertion without merit.

Sadly it is. He's just repeating WLC and Goat mans "justifications " to believe in God despite having no actual evidence. Next, he will be trying Goat man's "warrant" arguments, And if he gets really desperate he might resort to presuppositionalism. That would be hilarious  Hehe

You obviously do as well. Why else are you posting here?
Why do you believe in the existence of other minds?

RE: The absurd need for logical proofs for God
An old question, if a god made the universe (that is everything that exists) where was he before he made it??
The meek shall inherit the Earth, the rest of us will fly to the stars.

Never underestimate the power of very stupid people in large groups

Arguing with an engineer is like wrestling with a pig in mud ..... after a while you realise that the pig likes it!
