Better off with a 20/22 in post apocalyptic North America. The only credible source of game left here that needs a bigger barrel are human beings- so go with the light gun that you can cart hundreds of rounds for in a cargo pocket.
Unless the play is cannibalism, obviously- then you just pick the biggest thing that leaves a little meat on the bones after you smash it. IFVs tend to sport nice hardware, be useful to find one.
Bet you could fit a bunch of bathtub hooch in the rear without all those infantry cluttering it up. All in one mobile hunting platform (for people), trading post, and armored bunk. Most of them even have ac now!

When the food runs out - the deer will be extinct from predation in a couple of weeks at best. Most people know shit about butchering or preserving meat... So every swinging dick with a gun is going to shoot at least one deer a week just to feed their group. Most of it will go to the coyotes when it spoils... The yotes will be dinner in a few months.
You' ll be down to eating cockroaches in 6 months or so.

You' ll be down to eating cockroaches in 6 months or so. Meh, maybe where you’re at specifically, but they’re pretty much a plague in the se. You’ll notice that a 20 gauge or a 22 works for deer and coyotes at any rate. Personally, I’ll stick to crops and livestock. Wild game isn’t my bag.

I got 6 deer last year and my SO got one as well - ALL FROM THE SAME PERMANENT BLIND.... I'm willing to bet your herd density isn't any better than ours.
I have got at least 2 deer each season since 2006 when I built the blind.
But when the food runs out - city people aren' t going to respect such niceties as private property. They' ll go out in the boonies and kill whatever looks good to eat.

Well, there you go, you’ve got plenty of deer. I don’t think the terrible ravaging hordes of city folk will come out to kill your deer. They’re going to keep getting their food where city dwellers have gotten it for ten thousand years or so. Market.

City folks wouldn't make it past the bugs and snakes. Better to save my ammo for the pigs. I would be in trouble if flora like chicken of the woods died off, and I couldn't develop a taste for turtle and gar. But it's my hypothetical great-great grandkids problem, not mine.

Oh, they'll be out there, all right. And shooting all the other long pig that's out there hunting, even if it's wearing a complete orange outfit! 
And I guess that I'd better learn to like the taste of flies. There will certainly be enough of them around, eating the other long pigs in the neighborhood. Then again, the lizard population would probably explode along with the fly's.
