Truth isn't worth much if it makes you miserable.

Lets assume your doctor tells you tomorrow that you have terminal cancer. What do you do? Accept the truth and feel miserable, or pretend you dont have cancer?

Obviously you should just pretend you don't have cancer, as you're going to die, either way.

I would accept that I have terminal cancer, and that I'm going to die soon, and be happy anyway.

If your belief in God brings you happiness, Ahri, I'm cool with that. IMO, it's one of the valid reasons to believe.

But don't you suspect some people are happy without that belief?

edit: I'm a beer man, btw. Rum for cheap liquor and whiskey when it's the good stuff.

I've always been happy, even before I knew what Catholicism really was. But I feel like I've always believed in God, on some level, so I attribute my happiness to my belief in God. Honestly, I can't fathom how a person could be happy without believing in God, but if someone tells me they're happy, and they don't believe in God, I suppose I have no choice but to take their word for it.

Sure you can, and you probably know people who simply are happy without believing in your god.  What you must mean to say here is that you can't imagine that you would be happy if you didn't believe in your god.  

It's related to the notion that there could be no x value, or value x, outside of a belief in whatever sort of god a person fancies.

You are technically correct. I just tend to frame my personal "what if" queries about life, in a positive way, as opposed to negative. I've never experienced anything overwhelmingly negative in my whole life, and I hope I never do. But if something like that should ever happen, I pray it passes quickly.......of course, I haven't prayed in many years, but you get what I'm saying.
