How the hell is anything Boru said NIMBY lol
I can only assume that, to Biker, if you don’t like a governor’s decision to abandon a bunch of people under false pretenses (they were apparently promised immigration papers and work if they went on the planes), or if you’re chosen to host them and given fuck-all in the way of notice (like in Martha’s Vineyard), it’s only because of NIMBY.
For what it’s worth, Texas has been doing the same to my state (Illinois) for the last few weeks. The 500 or so migrants Texas has bused to Illinois is probably just a drop in the bucket, since we already have hundreds of thousands of undocumented immigrants. It’s the fact that they’re being coerced into moving under false pretense and just being dumped here. And no, it wouldn’t be any better if he moved them to some other state.

In political terms, what DeSantis did is called a ‘stunt’, which takes the form of an utterly meaningless gesture done to raise a political profile.
In legal terms, what did is probably called ‘human trafficking’.
Boru And the NIMBY faction speaks....
Nowt to do with NIMBY, since I’m not proposing to ship people who are in NZ illegally (yes, there are some) to some other place. DeSantis is the Queen of NIMBY, since he transported people from Texas to Massachusetts on the off chance that they might eventually wind up in Florida.
Also, it appears that the majority of the people he transported were NOT in your country illegally - they are registered asylum seekers with pending court hearings. Under federal law, people in that situation are legally allowed to be in the US. As if that weren’t enough, Florida law says the funds earmarked for relocation of undocumented people are to be used to transport people ‘from this state’.
DeSantis broke both state and federal laws with his little stunt. He dismisses the laws as ‘semantics’.

Boru You have some thousands of people trying to get into your country illegally.
We have MILLIONS.

What DeSantis did was both an unethical political stunt and stupid because it will encourage more immigration. Signed, someone who's backyard is now much nicer thanks to Juan.

But the people he transported were NOT in your country illegally.
Even if they were, what did DeSantis’ little piece of showboating do to help the problem? If those people were illegally in Texas (and for the third time, they weren’t), then they’re illegally in Massachusetts.

Just a reminder: these people (or at least many of them) were seeking asylum, which is actually legal, since the right to asylum is internationally recognised and has been for decades.

This is DeSantis virtue-signaling to Trumpeteers. Apparently some of them have bitten on his hook.

That other people are just as shitty as they are, and if you drop teh browns in their backyard their hypocrisy will show. Because that's all it is, hypocrisy.
....but that's not what happened. The community rallied in something akin to a hurricane relief effort. So..you know, good job, mission accomplished....?

Thank God those rapists and murders landed in a choice friendly, no capital punishment state. Though that won't stop them from turning some home boys gay along the way.
