As usual, both sides are reporting quite different things. Regarding the Russian claim that not one soldier was lost in the retreat, the Ukrainians were putting on these sorts of barrages during the evacuation:
I'd hate to be on the receiving end of that. Note also that later in that video, a column of Russian troops are shown crossing east in decent order over the Dneipr.
Russians still have their artillery on the other side of the Dnipro River. So they are still able to make another Aleppo or Mariupol out of Kherson and cause heavy causalities to the Ukrainians.
Also I had heard last week a prominent military personality saying that the taking of Kherson would be a matter of several weeks (not one or two but several weeks). And that the best strategy of Ukrainians would be to encircle the city and wait for the next move by Russians.
Also, The Russians cannot engage into street to street combat with the Ukrainians. I don’t think they have enough determination for this type of combat.
So let’s just wait and see

Yeah, thats the point of trying to menace the city from the opposite bank , OTOH, we probably shouldn't just assume the ru arty is safe because they crossed a river. Hasn't helped them yet. They've tried it before.

I don't know much, so a question: does Russia still have access to the nuclear weapons as it did back when Kennedy convinced them to stand down?

According to Wikipedia, Russia has 5,977 nuclear warheads. And of course modern ones are more powerful than the ones they had during the Cuban Missile Crisis.

Remember that Kennedy convinced Russia to stand down by standing down US missiles in Turkey. The USSR didn't want enemy missiles so close, just as the USA didn't want them in Cuba.
Nearby nukes are considered a provocation. Fortunately, both Sweden and Finland have announced that even if they join NATO they will not accept nukes being based in their countries.

On the contrary, most modern strategic nuclear weapons are much less powerful than the typical ones from the early 1960s. The early 1960s era strategic weapons compensate for poor precision of early ICBMs, typical error several miles, by very high explosive yield that promise to destroy the city in passing that it can expect to not actually hit. Modern strategic weapons can expect to land within as little as one hundred feet of the target, they are designed to take our specific hardened target with something close to a direct hit.

God knows how many of those are functional considering the state of other Russian equipment

Sure, russia could lob a few rusty nukes at random targets on account of being embarrassed by ukraine, hardly ukraines problem, our ours. Sounds like a russian problem to me. They've been threatening that since before anyone was helping ukraine..and yet...

The Ukrainians are also advancing down the east bank of the river. I'd imagine that Russian artillery is going to be pretty busy fighting off that drive.

Listen, and understand. The Ukrainian forces are out there. They can’t be bargained with. They can’t be reasoned with. They don’t feel pity, or remorse, or fear. And they absolutely will not stop, ever, until you are back the fuck over the RF border.
