As far as I can see, that article essentially makes two arguments:
1) The number of people who claim to have contacted with the aliens is even greater than the number of people claiming to have been saved by a gun.
2) The probability that somebody who has a gun will be murdered is greater than the probability that somebody who doesn't have a gun will be murdered.
Both of those arguments are nonsense.
For the first argument, in case somebody thinks he has seen an alien, we have a strong independent reason to think that he is mistaken. Intelligent life is almost certainly thousands of light-years away from us, and special relativity prevents the aliens from traveling faster than light, no matter how technologically advanced they are. What is that strong independent reason to think that somebody who thinks he has been saved by a gun is mistaken? There isn't one.
For the second argument... If you lived in a high-crime neighbourhood where you are at an increased risk of getting murdered, wouldn't you want to get a gun to protect yourself? People who get a gun are those at a higher risk of getting murdered, it's not that having a gun puts you at a higher risk of getting murdered.

Now she's going around posting about how no one should feel unsafe at a mall. Well, guess what bud? They are safe at the mall. Safe as all fuck. Black men are more likely to get struck by lightning than killed by police, and you are probably more likely to get struck by lightning twice than get shot in a mall shooting. So, that tells you how much AWTY's anecdote is worth. As much as I paid for it. Now, let's keep our priorities straight here. NONE of us are dying in mall shootings. It's not happening.

But, some of us may die, driving on the road. And Helios refused to answer my thought experiment for a reason (where prohibition of alcohol is assured to be successful in an alt universe). Because he wouldn't want to ban alcohol, but at the same time, Helios is too embarrassed to tell the forum that he'd choose alcohol over thousands of innocent lives.

The issue is, you made it about the mall, and you selfishly and anecdotaly (something we should be above at he forum) made your argument about your own family getting bit by sharks (rare like mall shootings) and you made claims about no one being safe in a mall. If you had left out the mall part and you just wanted to talk about guns, you'd be fine. But instead, now you just sound like someone who's shown up to the beach and is yelling at the top of their lungs, "close to beach, I have an intuition that a shark may be on its way."

AWTY said you can't even be safe in a mall. That's BS and fear mongering and some talking point a politician would put forward before they dropped the hammer down on the citizens rights. Mall shootings are extremely rare. Yes, shootings can take place anywhere, which is why you focus on the shooting part of the story, not the mall. AWTY is fixated now on how dangerous malls are, and it's just not logical whatsoever. To be concerned about gun violence in general, which is what I assume you're getting at here, is completely fine. To fearmonger about sharks and malls, is silly, no matter which way you look at it.

That's correct. Malls have not shown themselves to cancel out terror attacks. Quite the reverse. They, like any other crowded gathering, are common targets for terrorism.

If you mean to say Gary Kleck's study has too small sample size... Do you reject the entire comparative linguistics then? Because there are only 5'000 languages out there, so no comparative linguistics study can have a sample size larger than 5'000.
