Who said StackExchange was bad? Not me, certainly.
That’s not what the Dunning-Kruger effect is.

I cant blame you for taking your toys and going home. You've failed to make your case, and it's based only on one study that is very susceptible to critique.
You should probably use more data and less emotion in constructing your personal views. Your lack of objectivity is very evident.
In Australia, gun deaths have indeed been decreasing over time. Maybe it has something to do with gun control, maybe not, it is hard to tell. However, in the UK, gun deaths are actually higher now than they were 100 years ago. So arguing that gun control in the UK has reduced gun deaths is... I don't even know which word to use.
Let me see if I’ve got this sussed:
When gun death rates decline, gun control may or may not be the reason. However, an increase in guns deaths is easily attributed to gun control.
Is it at all possible that there are other factors in play?

Well, here is one source claiming the UK has more gun deaths now than 100 years ago: https://youtu.be/Uxslqt0graM?t=74
And here is another one (he might be biased, but he is citing something which seems to be a reliable source): https://youtu.be/Uxslqt0graM?t=74

I didn't say that gun control is the reason why there was an increase in gun deaths in the UK. Helios claimed that gun control worked in the UK to decrease gun deaths. The fact that there hasn't been a decrease of gun crimes in the UK proves that wrong.

Youtube is not a good source for data. Aside from that, I have limited data in my plan and don't propose to wasste it on some idiot's youtube pet theories. I mean, show me some official statistics, that have been collated and interpreted in a solid study.
Additionally, I'd already asked you to avoid biased sources, and here you offer a "source" that is by your admission perhaps biased? No. I don't want your cherry-picked shit. Show me a reputable and unbiased source for your claim, or understand that you'll lose even more credibility.

You aren't missing anything. I'll save you the trouble. Neither video makes such a claim.
Did get me wondering how far back reliable gun death stats go in the uk. Turns out not far - or..rather, not as far as I would have expected? Gun crime in general was rare in victorian england because guns were still too expensive. That mirror todays gun crime data in the us for self explanatory reasons - time to crime on guns is directly related and most strongly influenced by the cost of their acquisition. Heading into the 1930s, even, it remains relatively rare and this is notable because the uk was a heavily policed state. I found a report from the twenties about how some cops borrowed a wealthy bystanders gun to shoot a fleeing (unarmed) suspect. Perfect, no notes. Coming out of the twenties and into the thirties, though, gun crime (and violent crime in general) skyrockets and becomes a part of the administrative psyche and it's from this point onward that we would see the sorts of comprehensive itemized data collection familiar and relevant top us today. The whole period is characterized by mass unemployment and social unrest - culminating in a world war, ofc. Here again mirroring gun crime data in the us. Desperately poor people and firearms are not a peaceful mix.
In almost any time and age and country, it would seem, the very best gun control measures - if the purpose of gun control is to reduce gun death....don't have much to do with guns at all. The trouble is that they represent problems infinitely more difficult to resolve than monitoring and restricting some item would be. With better circumstances in regards to mental health and poverty we could assume that gun crime and gun death would return to being a relatively rare thing no matter what set of laws we had (or didn't have) on the books. Until then, the best we can do is reduce the supply and increase the cost to acquire the firearms that might otherwise be used in crime. This works..again, no matter what laws we have (or don't have) on the books.
