Alex Crow is accused of grooming a 2023 McGill-Toolen Catholic High School graduate and taking her to Italy with him. Before leaving the country, Crow wrote a letter and left it with the Archdiocese saying he would never return to America.

They kept us up all hours, took away our watches (no cell phones in 1988), and subjected us to emotional stories, music, and sleep deprivation. Then the hugging and touching started. After the retreat there was a group of "peer leaders" who tried to get me to return to the center for follow up ministry. Ole brother Antonio was there with lots of hugs and touches. Freaked me out. One close call was enough for me. Never went back to church after that.

The suit says the camp’s director of social services, Emmett Presley, engaged in “innumerable” incidents of fondling of genitals and oral rape.” and added that “Men and women who owned, operated, and staffed the facility preyed on and abused the children housed on the remote facility in Warm Springs, AR. routinely and systematically.”

The complaint includes several counts of negligent supervision and retention, sexual battery, and Title IX violations. And, because some residents were picked up from their home state and driven to The Lord’s Ranch by staff who likely knew they were going to be abused, the plaintiffs are suing under the Trafficking Victims Protection Reauthorization Act.

This is not the first time Suhl has been in legal jeopardy. In 2016, he was convicted of paying up to $20,000 in cash bribes over four years to a state health official to increase Medicaid payments to his facility. He was sentenced to seven years in prison.

In 2019, he was released after Trump commuted his sentence to time served — after ex-Governor Mike Huckabee lobbied on Suhl’s behalf. This is not the first time Huckabee has been closely associated with child molesters. In 2016, prominent Christian author John Perry, who co-wrote Huckabee’s book “Character Makes a Difference,” was accused of child molestation in two separate lawsuits.

To fill out his dance card, Perry also co-authored a book with Alabama Supreme Court Justice Roy Moore, “So Help Me God.” Moore was also accused of sexual abuse of minors, by four women. Yet in 2018, he received Trump’s endorsement in his losing campaign for Senate.

The most recent filing from the Archdiocese of Baltimore’s bankruptcy proceedings shows the organization has more than $200 million in assets, which include a Tiffany tea set, a diamond-encrusted crucifix, a sapphire-studded locket and dozens of solid gold rings.

The filing is the first look into the Church’s holdings after more than a thousand alleged victims of child sexual abuse from the past 80 years are expected to seek retribution from their trauma.

A Victorian jury has delivered a stinging rebuke to the Catholic Church, awarding $3.3 million to the victim of a notorious paedophile after the church argued compensation should be only $250,000.

The Supreme Court case is the first time a civil trial against the Catholic Church has been tested before jurors.

On Friday, the jury delivered a verdict against the diocese of Wagga Wagga over abuse by priest Vincent Kiss. The verdict included handing the victim $1.3 million in exemplary damages, after the diocese initially claimed in its legal defence that it was unaware of Kiss’ abuse of the victim, despite him pleading guilty to criminal charges in 2002 and serving a seven-year prison sentence.

The archdiocese only conceded the abuse and amended its statement of defence on October 20, four days before the trial began.

Barrister Jonathan Brett, KC, representing the victim, slammed the church’s legal tactics and its failure to follow its own guidelines on responding to historical clerical abuse, known as “Towards Healing”, which caps compensation to victims at $150,000.

“Healing for the victims’ is in the heading, and this is what they are supposed to do, ‘a sensitive and compassionate response to the complainant must be the first priority in all cases of abuse’,” Brett told the jury of six on November 8.

“Words are cheap. That’s 2016, and they are still playing word games in 2023 and saying, ‘Well, all right, he’s pleaded guilty, but we still don’t say it happened’. Until basically the moment we enter the court door they finally say, ‘Well, yes, OK, it did happen’.”

Brett had also argued that exemplary damages were warranted because of the diocese’s failure to respond to an abuse complaint made against Kiss in 1968.

In Chile, justice eludes victims of Catholic clergy sex abuse years after the crisis exploded

The Karadima case shook the Vatican itself and marred Pope Francis’ trip to Chile in 2018. Instead of applause, he was greeted with unprecedented protests against a papal visit. The scenario worsened when Francis accused Karadima’s victims of slander. He later admitted he made “grave errors” in judgment and invited them to Rome to beg their forgiveness.

According to polling firm Latinobarómetro, the decline in confidence in the Chilean Catholic Church is one of the largest in Latin America. It fell from 77% in 1996 to 31% in 2020. Currently half of Chile’s 18 million population identify as Catholic and the number of religiously unaffiliated rose from 18% in 2010 to 35% in 2020.

“This wasn’t a crisis, this was a cultural break from the Catholic Church,” said Chilean historian Marcial Sánchez. “Chilean society felt cheated by the church.”

There has been little justice in cases of clerical abuse. Some offenders were defrocked, but few have received criminal convictions, according to advocates. Some died before receiving any punishment from the church or the courts.

Not long after the pope’s visit, Helmut Kramer joined other victims to launch “Red de Sobrevivientes Chile” (Chile’s Survivors Network), which widened its scope to support victims abused in foster homes, scout groups and sports clubs.

Washington Catholic church bosses want to kill new Maryland law allowing clergy abuse lawsuits.

The Archdiocese of Washington is seeking to overturn the Maryland law that allows survivors of child sex abuse to bring forward claims no matter when the abuse happened, the News4 I-Team learned.

"The church has spent hundreds of thousands of dollars to try to block this legislation from moving forward for the last 10 years, yet they preach something that they won't practice, so I'm very disappointed,” said Maryland Del. CT Wilson, D-District 28, who sponsored the bill. “It's not a surprise, because I've seen the lengths that they go to to try and keep this quiet."
