I hope this is not a trend.
Yeah, I am back to making sure all the pets are breathing again. Happens whenever we lose one.
Both my wife and I are checking to make sure Zoe is breathing, just from paranoia. The fact that Lucy went so quickly was a blessing (because we didn't have to make that awful decision) and a curse (because we had no time to prepare). Less than an hour separated a vibrant, happy dog and one that was gone.

No wonder you're checking them like that. It was almost like that for Cooper, he seemed fine the day before, and had trouble walking the next morning and was dead before noon, though he was able to make it to his favorite shady spot in the corner of the yard first. I thought he was starting to get better and was bringing him some water so he could rest, it was just a few minutes later but he was gone.
He's why Finnigan is half the size, I might have gotten Cooper to the animal hospital (it was a Sunday so his vet wasn't open) in time if I could have carried him and put him in the car. But it was probably too late, thirteen is really old for a dog over a hundred pounds.
I'm not anti-Christian. I'm anti-stupid.

Broke my heart. Karm made it to 11 before her heart gave out and we had to have her put down. So far, knock on wood, the other three aren't displaying heart issues.
I bet I watched Karm breathe for 5 years. The cat's getting up there in years and I have been watching him too.

I've got to get some video of him doing his thing one day. My normally loving and friendly dog goes charging out to the bird-feeders where they sit underneath, his haunches pumping furiously and a deep growl in his throat. I don't think he'd know what to do if he caught one, lol, but he's come within an ace of doing so a couple of times.

My youngest one will sit like a statue waiting to chase one. And yes, she has caught one so far...on Christmas Day. Zig has caught more than a few in his day. Quinn will be fed by his people or he's not interested.

The squirrels here are in tune enough that unless I sneak the door open they will immediately hit the exits. So I sneak the door open and whisper "Squirrel" to m'boy. He is up to speed before he hits the back door, it's the funniest thing in the world. I have to get some video up of it one day.

My dog will eat anything. Once my mom's late live-in Kevin left a very powerful brownie on the coffee table. Blackie was stoned the next three days.

Quinn is so not a hunter and he has a delicate tummy.
Harley is always on the lookout out the back door and the back window in the living room and I swear I think she can hear a squirrel's tail rustling from inside the house.
Zig has caught squirrels and bunnies. How his chunky self can move so fast on the hunt is a mystery to me. He usually sort of meanders...not in a hurry for anything.

Zoe loves to chase squirrels and rabbits. She hasn't caught either as yet, but it isn't through lack of trying. She also has a thing for geese.
