Catholic university in Florida stages rally against state abortion amendment

Ave Maria University is hosting the Oct. 20 rally in opposition to a Florida Amendment 4, which would enshrine a right to abortion in the state constitution. The amendment would prevent the government from restricting abortion up until the point of viability and up to birth in cases of the woman’s health.

“We have been following our bishop, and his support for mothers and the unborn has been inspiring,” Lugalambi told CNA. “This event raises awareness of the harm Amendment 4 will cause to the unborn and their mothers — allowing for late-term abortions, eliminating parental consent laws, and worsening the health care provided to women in crisis.”

“We are grateful for the opportunity to support life in all its stages!” he said. “Ave Maria University is pro-life!”

“We are humbled to welcome Bishop Dewane and many special guests as we organize our community to get out and vote against this radical pro-abortion amendment,” Sharon Levesque, coordinator of the parish Respect Life Ministry and the Oct. 20 rally, told CNA.

If passed, the amendment would change the Florida Constitution to include a provision that reads: “No law shall prohibit, penalize, delay, or restrict abortion before viability or when necessary to protect the patient’s health, as determined by the patient’s health care provider.”

teachings of the Bible are so muddled and self-contradictory that it was possible for Christians to happily burn heretics alive for five long centuries. It was even possible for the most venerated patriarchs of the Church, like St. Augustine and St. Thomas Aquinas, to conclude that heretics should be tortured (Augustine) or killed outright (Aquinas). Martin Luther and John Calvin advocated the wholesale murder of heretics, apostates, Jews, and witches. - Sam Harris, "Letter To A Christian Nation"

Oh no. Cardinals are having their paychecks cut. Haven't these poor creatures been persecuted enough?

But seriously, 60,000 Euros annually is their paycheck? What happened to living like birds in the field as Jesus proclaimed?

Quote:Vatican cuts monthly pay for Catholic cardinals in Rome

The Vatican is cutting the already shrinking pay packages of cardinals who head the Catholic Church's top offices in Rome by about 10% or 500 euros ($540) a month as the pope pursues a "zero deficit" agenda of greater thrift.

The cardinals will no longer receive two monthly allowances that are often used to defray the cost of hiring personal secretaries, said a note written by Maximino Caballero Ledo, a Spanish layman who heads the Vatican's finance ministry.

They affect only cardinals who serve as heads of the Vatican's various departments in Rome: about 20 of the world's more than 230 "princes of the Church".

Cardinals in Rome receive a monthly stipend believed to be around 4,000 to 5,000 euros ($4,300 to $5,400), according to Italian media reports. The scrapped allowances are estimated at around 500 euros.

Catholic church reform process expected to disappoint hopes of more equity for women

The Vatican’s top doctrinal officer, Cardinal Victor Manuel Fernandez, told the extraordinary assembly of bishops and laypeople this week that Pope Francis said the moment for allowing ordination of women as deacons in the church “is not ripe.”

The multi-year synod process had sparked great hopes for change, especially for women, who have long complained that they are treated as second-class citizens in the church. Women are barred from the priesthood and the highest ministerial positions in the Catholic Church, yet do the lion’s share of the work running Catholic hospitals and schools and passing the faith onto future generations.

He did not respond directly to a request to define what would determine “ripeness” for a greater role for women.

Girl Scouts are too tolerant toward other human beings, therefore they are repugnant to the Catholic Church.

Quote:Archbishop: Cincinnati Catholics must cut ties with Girl Scouts over sex and gender views

Cincinnati Archbishop Dennis Schnurr said Monday he is ending the Catholic archdiocese’s relationship with the Girl Scouts because he believes the organization promotes a “false and harmful” view of sex and gender.

Schnurr said those conversations determined the group operated in a way that conflicts with Catholic teaching by permitting activities, badges and awards that normalize “ideology contrary to the Catholic understanding of the human person made male and female in the image and likeness of God.”

Those concerns include an "Inclusive. Together" patch that encourages girls to discuss sexual orientation, a "Multicultural Community Celebration Fun Patch" that recognized LBGTQ+ Pride Month, and the Girl Scouts' social media promotion of Glitterary, a digital literary magazine for LBGTQ+ youth. Individual troops and girls are not required to use the patches or to share materials connected to them, but Catholic church officials objected to the scouts' decision to make them available or to promote them.

Last year, the archdiocese asked the Girl Scouts to "cease promotion of activities, resources, badges and awards repugnant to Catholic teaching." That request would have impacted all Girl Scout troops, not just those connected to the church.

By the end of 2025, no Girl Scout troops will be permitted in the archdiocese.

“The Archdiocese of Cincinnati cannot partner with an organization that, from its highest level, advocates ideas which the Church considers false and harmful,” Schnurr wrote.

Someone needs to the the church to mind their own business. They are the wrong people to try to teach morals when they hide and protect child abusers.

Michigan church fires beloved music director of 34 years over same-sex marriage

A Michigan Catholic church’s decision to fire longtime music director Fred Szczepanski after learning of his same-sex marriage has sparked outrage among parishioners.

Szczepanski, affectionately known as “Mr. Fred,” was dismissed by St. Francis Catholic Church in Traverse City after an anonymous letter alerted church officials to his 2020 marriage in Nevada. Traverse City news site The Ticker reports that Rev. Michael Lingaur, who recently assumed leadership at St. Francis, confirmed Szczepanski’s dismissal on October 18, three months before his planned retirement in January.

For 34 years, Szczepanski was a fixture in the community, playing a pivotal role in music ministry and church life. Parishioners say he organized services, planned music for holidays, and reached out to grieving community members. “He’s extremely talented, he’s perfect on the piano, he has perfect pitch, and because of him, I look forward to going to church every week,” longtime choir member Bob Holden told theTraverse City Record-Eagle. “I’m divorced. Do I get thrown out next?”

The firing led to demonstrations outside the church on Sunday, where supporters carried signs reading “Love Not Hate” and “Fired Not Retired.” According to reports, choir members staged a silent protest the Sunday before, leaving their seats empty and refusing to sing.

LoL, imagine the horror.

Quote:Constitutional Court in Spain forces Catholic brotherhood to admit a woman

Spain’s Constitutional Court (TC, by its Spanish acronym) has ruled that by refusing to admit a woman, a male Catholic brotherhood violated the legal precept of nondiscrimination on the basis of her sex and her right to association.

In 2008, María Teresita Laborda Sanz requested to join the Pontifical, Royal, and Venerable Slavery of the Most Holy Christ of La Laguna, a public association of the faithful founded in 1545.

Article 1 of the statutes of the brotherhood states that it is “a religious association of gentlemen, established to promote among its members a more perfect Christian life, the exercise of works of evangelical piety, and the increase of devotion and veneration of the holy image of Our Crucified Lord,” which is why the application was denied.

Rafael Palomino, a professor of ecclesiastical law of the state at the Complutense University of Madrid, criticized the ruling, calling it “bad news.”

“What do you mean she cannot carry out the same religious activity? Let the appellant set up another brotherhood, another association, another religion if she wants! This is beginning to be the inverse of the law presided over by a banana republic constitutional judiciary.”
