No, it’s not that bad. With the election of Donald Trump, Putin has suddenly become less psychotic. He only wants Ukraine to not join NATO (I don’t know about the EU) and he want to keep the territories he already took.

Everyone is talking about Crazy Hair (D. Trump) these days. This is the guy who decided to move out of Afghanistan after all these years of allied effort in time in which Afghanistan had to be transformed into something like Japan after WWII. Why? Because the Afghans needed at least another 20 years to leave feudal values behind and change into something like today’s Japan or today’s South-Korea. So this was a huge mistake and D. Trump is not someone who will not repeat similar mistakes in Ukraine
 
Belaqua: Not all Russians believe in the Putin style of doing things. I’ve met people here (in my country) who sort of understand and respect Putin’s strong man way of doing things. I agree that in a country that was plagued by corruption and mafia it is easy to perceive this kind of people as saviors of some sort. But as I said, the majority of Russians believe they had a much better deal in the 1990’s.
 
+ This is an issue for the rest of the world. For instance Russia is weaponizing its nuclear fuel that is badly needed in the US. So this is increasingly turning into a war in which no one is wining anything. But still: Russians will probably want their own country too. 300,000 Russian have left Russia because of Putin.

I definitely disagree. After the Ukrainian phone call got him his first impeachment, Trump detests the nation and Zelenskyy. Not to mention he's so busy fellating Putin that he won't consider America's own national interest.

Remember, up until the Japanese attacked Pearl Harbor, a significant proportion of the American public favored staying out of the war. For 27 months blitzkrieg tore apart everything it touched, and even the draft act term extension -- from one year to thirty months -- was only renewed by one vote. We would've let the world burn if we weren't dragged into it.

Back in WWII the US didnt want to involve itself too!!!!

It was Roosevelts installation of "lend and lease" and some outdated destroyers that got the UK any help until Dec 1941. It took Pearl Harbor and the german (!) declaration of war for the US to enter WWII!

From what I understand, it was mostly a reaction to NK sending soldiers to Ukraine, and some speculate that NK may be sending 100k troops.
