A 2nd ceasefire is reached between warring Shiites and Sunni Muslims in Pakistan’s restive northwest

Pakistani authorities with help from community leaders brokered a second ceasefire between warring minority Shiites and Sunni Muslims in a troubled northwestern region bordering Afghanistan following a deadly sectarian violence that left dozens of people dead, officials said Monday.

The violence in Kurram, a district in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province, erupted after gunmen attacked a convoy of vehicles carrying mostly Shiites, killing 52 people on Nov.21. Though nobody claimed the assault, some Shiites, after burying the victims, launched attacks on Sunni Muslims and clashes ensued, killing 78 people and wounding 200 others.

A ceasefire was reached on Nov. 24, but didn’t last long before violence flared up again. This time, authorities are hopeful it will hold.

Bangladesh’s Border Guards snuck into India to stop the renovation of a Hindu temple in Assam claiming it would “offend Bangladeshi Muslims”

Even as Hindu minorities in Bangladesh face the wrath of the Islamists, Hindus living in India also recently witnessed the Islamic supremacism currently gripping the neighbouring country. In a highly outrageous incident that violates international laws, a few personnel from Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) sneaked into India to stop the renovation of a Hindu temple, claiming that the sight of the temple would offend Bangladesh’s Muslims and touch off violence there.

The BGB personnel also threatened to open fire from across the border if they saw the work resuming, stating that the temple’s visibility from across the river was offensive to their country’s Muslims and seeing a temple after namaz or from a mosque is “haram” as per Islam.

Russian Islamic Council Approves Polygamy For Muslim Males, Contrary To Legal Code

The Council of Islamic Clerics of Russia's Spiritual Administration of Muslims (DUM), issued a fatwa on December 18 that allows a Muslim male to enter up to four marriages at the same time as long as certain conditions are met.

The fatwa stipulates that a man can engage in polygamy only if he ensures equitable treatment for all wives. This includes equal material provision, separate housing for each wife, and spending equal time with them according to an agreed schedule.

If a man cannot meet these requirements, he is prohibited from entering multiple religious marriages unless a bride "voluntarily waives" her rights to them.

The DUM has acknowledged that women in purely religious marriages lack legal protections, which critics argue may leave women in polygamous religious marriages vulnerable.

Russia's Family Code explicitly prohibits a person from entering a registered marriage with someone who is already married. The government, however, has been looking for ways to spur Russians to have more children as the declining population ages, a problem worsened by the Kremlin's war in Ukraine, which experts say has seen hundreds of thousands of Russian men die.

Bhopal: Stones pelted and swords flashed amidst communal clashes between Muslims and Sikhs in Jahangirabad, at least 12 injured

On 24th December, a violent incident transpired in Purani Galla Mandi of Jahangirabad, in Bhopal, Madhya Pradesh where Muslims and Sikhs are in the majority. Stone pelting took place between members of the two communities and even swords were brandished which led to multiple injuries including women. Cops rushed to the location just as they received information about the occurrence and heavy police force was deployed there.

A brawl between a group of Sikhs and Muslims was discovered two days ago in the area, according to the police. It then turned into a contentious issue. Senior police officers were at the scene as soon as word spread that stones were being thrown. The region has been turned into a cantonment because of the gravity of the situation.

Both sides are blaming each other and even claiming road blockades. He added that on 24th December 50-60 Sikhs launched an attack and were thrashing everyone in their way. They even struck someone on the head with their sword. They also attacked houses, kicked their doors and broke CCTV cameras.

“Sikhs claim Muslims disrespected their turban, which led to a scuffle. Others claim the tensions simmered over rent money, whereas news reports suggest it all started over a high-speed bike,” she informed on social media.

Muslim organisations express outrage over renewed sale of Salman Rushdie’s ‘The Satanic Verses’ in India

Some Muslim organisations have strongly condemned the renewed sale of Salman Rushdie's controversial book 'The Satanic Verses' in India and appealed to the central government to reinstate the ban on it.

Rushdie's book has returned to Indian bookshelves, 36 years after it was banned by the Rajiv Gandhi government in 1988. Currently, 'The Satanic Verses' is available at Bahrisons Booksellers in Delhi-NCR.

"If freedom of expression hurts someone's sentiments, it is a legal offence. 'The Satanic Verses' is a blasphemous book. Selling such a controversial book under the pretext of freedom of expression cannot be accepted in any form. It goes against the spirit of the Constitution," Maulana Kaab Rashidi, legal advisor for the Uttar Pradesh unit of Jamiat Ulama-e-Hind (AM), told PTI.

Rashidi added, "The foundation of India's Constitution allows for freedom of expression, but it does not grant anyone the right to hurt sentiments. Resuming the sale of 'The Satanic Verses' is an attempt at provocation. It is the government's responsibility to stop this. If the government allows it, it would amount to shirking its constitutional duties." He further remarked that Muslims regard Allah and the Prophet as dearer than their own lives and in such a scenario, the controversial book will never be tolerated.

Maulana Yasub Abbas, general secretary of the All India Shia Personal Law Board, also criticised the renewed availability of the book, stating, "The book mocks Islamic views, insults Prophet Muhammad and his companions, and hurts sentiments. Allowing its sale poses a threat to the country's harmony. I urge the prime minister to impose a complete ban on this book in India," he said.

Maulana Mufti Shahabuddin Razvi, National President of the All India Muslim Jamaat, said in a statement, "This book insults Islam, Prophet Muhammad, and several Islamic figures. Its content is so offensive that it cannot be repeated. Allowing this book in the market will disturb the nation's atmosphere. No Muslim can tolerate seeing this hateful book on any bookstore shelf."

He demanded that the central government reimpose the ban and warned of significant protests from the Muslim community if the book becomes widely available.

Taliban Ban Windows To Stop Women Being Seen Inside Homes

"Seeing women working in kitchens, in courtyards or collecting water from wells can lead to obscene acts," government spokesperson Zabihullah Mujahid posted on X on Saturday.

A decree by the Taliban's supreme leader Hibatullah Akhundzada states that new buildings should not have windows that show "the courtyard, kitchen, neighbor's well and other places usually used by women," according to a translation by France24.

Existing windows looking into such areas should be blocked with a wall or should have their views obstructed in some other way "to avoid nuisances caused to neighbors."
