To somebody like me who knows very little about economics, Trump's tariffs, etc., seem random and chaotic. But this writer sees them as a considered plan. The plan will harm US allies and, of course, not-rich people in the US, but there is method in the madness.

Too little too late.  Personal opinion - it will fall to the people to set things right.

"The People" are too damned busy with "The Boyz" reruns and binging the next thing on Netflix. Thing will have to get a lot worse to push them out of their Lay-Z-Boys.

You're not wrong - I'm not expecting the people to do so, but that doesn't change my opinion that no one else will

It’s a six trillion-with-a-t tax increase and it won’t work.

The author draws a lot of comparisons to the Nixon Shock, but doesn’t seem put off by the fact that Nixon, in addition to (a comparatively mild) 10% tariff also froze wages and prices.  Nixon’s scheme turned out to be inflationary, depreciated the US dollar, and was abandoned after just four months.

I'm starting to suspect that the plan is to drive the majority of small businesses into bankruptcy and then large corporations buy up the assets for tiddlywinks.
