Elderly Hindu Man Beaten Over False Blasphemy Allegation in Bangladesh

A 69-year-old Hindu barber, Poresh Chandra Shil, was brutally assaulted by a mob in Bangladesh’s Lalmonirhat district following a false accusation of blasphemy, according to the Human Rights Congress for Bangladesh Minorities (HRCBM).

The rights group condemned the attack and reported that Shil’s son was also manhandled while pleading with the mob to spare his father’s life. Disturbingly, HRCBM alleged that local police failed to intervene and, instead, enabled the violence. A senior police officer reportedly vowed to file fabricated charges to ensure Shil would be imprisoned for life—an act the organization called a blatant violation of Bangladesh’s Constitution and international human rights standards.

The incident reportedly began around 2:30 p.m. on June 20, when Md. Abdul Ajiz, the self-identified Imam of Al-Hera Jame Mosque in Namatari, visited Shil’s salon for a haircut. In a formal complaint, Ajiz alleged that Shil made derogatory remarks about the Prophet Muhammad’s marriage to a young girl.

The mob severely beat Shil and assaulted his son, who begged them to stop. The family firmly denied any blasphemous remarks, calling the accusation a “fabricated pretext for violence and looting,” and part of a broader pattern of religious persecution.

Afghan man, 45, 'marries girl aged SIX before Taliban intervene... and say he must wait until she is NINE'

A six-year-old girl has allegedly been forced to marry a 45-year-old man in Afghanistan after she was given away for money.

The haunting photo of an older man and a little girl standing together horrified even the Taliban, who intervened with the union.

The youngster had allegedly been exchanged by her father for money to a man who already has two wives, it was reported by Amu.tv.

The marriage was allegedly set to take place on Friday in Helmand province but the Taliban stepped in and arrested both men involved.

No charges were brought against them but they have forced the creep to wait until the girl is nine before he can take her home, local media said.

UN Women reported last year that there has been a 25 per cent rise in child marriages in Afghanistan after the Taliban banned girls' education in 2021. They also said there has been a 45 per cent increase in child bearing across the country.

The controversy centres on NikkahGram, a UK-registered Muslim matchmaking service that advertises virgin brides and polygamous marriages.

The site, which has been operating since 2023, describes itself as a service for Muslim men seeking a "shy, untouched spouse" and those wanting multiple wives.

It specifically promotes virgin women under 35 as ideal first wives, according to The Telegraph.

NikkahGram was founded "to facilitate marriage for Muslims who stick to core Islamic values of modesty and submission to Allah without modern excuses."

The platform operates on a subscription model, though virgin women can access its services free of charge.

Khan told GB News: "It’s wild, humiliating, disgraceful. It’s an affront to women’s dignity.

NikkahGram actively promotes polygamous marriages, allowing men to seek a second, third or fourth wife. The platform advises men against registering Islamic marriages in Western countries, where polygamy constitutes a criminal offence.

The platform has shared videos suggesting men should beat their wives as a "wake-up call" for continued disobedience.

In a clip about divorce posted on Instagram last week, men are advised: "From those wives whom you fear arrogance, first advise them. [After] one month of advising, then if they persist, forsake them in bed - don't have any intimacy.

"Show them that you don't desire them. And if they persist, finally strike them lightly, not with a baseball bat, not from the very beginning boom, no. This is gradual."

Hamtramck, Michigan. Catrina Stackpoole, a lesbian former councilwoman who once championed the cause of Muslim immigrants – helping them find food, clothing, and housing – now feels deeply betrayed. The city’s Muslim-majority council recently banned the Pride flag and refused to stand with LGBTQ+ groups during public celebrations.

Stackpoole’s words, emotional and raw, have gone viral on X (formerly Twitter), sparking a national debate. “We welcomed you,” she told the city council in a public meeting. “We created nonprofits to help feed, clothe, and find housing. We did everything we could to make your transition here easier, and this is how you repay us? By stabbing us in the back?”

With a population of just 28,000, Hamtramck saw a significant demographic shift over the last few decades, from being predominantly Polish to becoming majority Muslim, with large Yemeni and Bangladeshi communities. In 2021, the city elected what is believed to be the US’s only all-Muslim city council, with a Yemeni-born mayor, Amer Ghalib.

But in 2023, that same council voted unanimously to ban Pride flags and all non-governmental flags from city property. LGBTQ+ residents and their allies were stunned, especially those who had once advocated for the rights and inclusion of Muslim immigrants. The decision felt targeted. And in June 2025, during Pride Month, the tension reignited as city officials reportedly refused to march alongside LGBTQ+ groups in a local Labor Day parade, prompting Stackpoole’s viral remarks. The controversy has since drawn national attention, sparking protests and online campaigns urging the council to reconsider. Activist groups are now planning to file a civil rights lawsuit, arguing that the ban infringes on freedom of expression and equal representation.

Hamtramck’s mayor, Amer Ghalib — the same man who led the charge to ban the Pride flag — recently endorsed Donald Trump for president in 2024. Despite Trump’s previous anti-Muslim policies, such as the 2017 travel ban, Ghalib publicly declared Trump as “the right choice for this critical time.” In a Facebook post written in Arabic, he stated he had spoken to Trump about issues ranging from Yemen to Arab-American voting trends in Michigan and declared, “Let the caravan begin its journey.”

Ghalib is not alone. Across Michigan, a critical swing state, growing numbers of Muslim leaders have begun endorsing Trump.

Michigan Attorney General Dana Nessel, who is openly lesbian, also weighed in and urged the city to reverse what she called a “wall of exclusion.” Meanwhile, LGBTQ+ advocates in Hamtramck have reported increased vandalism and harassment since the ban. Incidents include teens egging homes with Pride flags and long-time residents expressing fear about being openly queer in their own city.

Bangladesh Hindus resort to distress sale as village ransacked over Prophet post

Fear and panic have swept through a Hindu village in northern Bangladesh's Rangpur district after a 17-year-old boy's alleged Facebook post on Prophet Muhammad sparked waves of violent mob attacks on homes in the area. Over two days at least 15 Hindu homes were ransacked, forcing many families to take refuge elsewhere and sell off livestock and belongings in distress.

What's even more alarming is that the waves of violent attacks on Hindu homes, including those of the boy's relatives, took place despite his arrest over blasphemy.

It was only after the deployment of the army and police that the rampaging mobs retreated. But local Hindus remain anxious, many are hungry, their homes burnt or reduced to rubble, taking shelter with relatives, and uncertain about when, or even if, they can return home, according to reports by Bangladeshi media outlets.

As of Monday, no arrests had been made and no FIR had been registered against the marauders despite the widespread violence.

The violence in Rangpur is part of a disturbing pattern against Hindu minorities across Bangladesh since PM Sheikh Hasina's government was ousted following violent protests.

Many fear that justice will remain elusive as perpetrators go unpunished. The lack of formal legal action has deepened mistrust among the affected communities.

In the first few months following Hasina's ouster in August 2024, Bangladesh recorded a sharp escalation in violence against Hindus: at least 200 attacks across 52 districts occurred within the first week, and by October 22, the interim government had officially acknowledged 88 cases of communal violence targeting mainly Hindus, said India's Ministry of External Affairs.
