RE: Do You Think Christians Are Crazy and Delusional Or Just Plain Thick?

I agree with downbeat. I think most of them have just a vague understanding of their religion, along with the intellectual laziness which I mentioned earlier. Most of these people can be shown, once they're trained to think critically, that the bible is full of crap. It's the willfully ignorant people who defend all religious tenets even after they've been proven false that I can't stand.

I've always found it strange that theists have a blind spot towards their own religion. It's like if you slap their deity's name brand on the idea, its magically justified through divine morality, which is beyond the grasp of mortal intelligence to be able to recognize or comprehend. Yet any other religion can claim the same quote, and they feel fully justified to use their intelligence (previously unable to reach the divine when turned their direction) to cast down someone else's beliefs.
I bet you could take a quote of scripture, and replace God (or equivalent major deity) with "the Great Cthulu" and see how quickly they would argue against their very own text.
"I get angry when believers say that the entire unimaginable hugeness of the universe was made entirely for the human race, and atheists by contrast say that humanity is this infinitesmal eyeblink in the vastness of time and space, and then religious believers accuse atheists of being arrogant."

I like to take any argument for God, or any scripture mentioning him, and replace "God" with "Bigfoot." It really shows you how ridiculous religion really is.

How honorable for post 1 to be quoted from an atheist who made it up. And I thought we weren't supposed to use straw mans here.

Speaking of strawman...
Even if the open windows of science at first make us shiver after the cozy indoor warmth of traditional humanizing myths, in the end the fresh air brings vigor, and the great spaces have a splendor of their own - Bertrand Russell

That's why it's called Poe's Law. It's often difficult if not impossible to distinguish between parodies of fundie Christian thought and actual fundie Christian thought. Even though someone made the arguments in the OP as a parody, I guarantee you that you can find actual Christians making those arguments.

Interesting if not barbaric.
Extraordinary claims require extraordinary evidence - Carl Sagan
Mankind's intelligence walks hand in hand with it's stupidity.
Being an atheist says nothing about your overall intelligence, it just means you don't believe in god. Atheists can be as bright as any scientist and as stupid as any creationist.
You never really know just how stupid someone is, until you've argued with them.
