So you need games that are easy for a nongamer to pick up, playable with low APM, and which are cheap/free and for the computer.

Immediately what comes to mind is varieties of Tower-Defense games. These games are strategical and often easy to learn. Don't become upset if you lose a game like this... one can play these games for years and still find them a challenge.

I believe Plants vs Zombies is the best introduction to the genre.

Intermediate: these games hold your hand a little, but the basic formula from beginner games is all the same.

Advanced: If you become familiar with the genre, you might well appreciate such games as these:

Note: this is not the only type of free game... but these are games that will certainly run on your system, and you might enjoy them.

I think bearing in mind Padriac hasn't played games before at all, he may not be concerned with graphics as much.

In fact, its best he plays them, before they DO look horrible compared to newer games he may play, if that makes sense.

If you’re going to watch tele, you should watch Scooby Doo. That show was so cool because every time there’s a church with a ghoul, or a ghost in a school. They looked beneath the mask and what was inside?

Padraic: At GOG.com you have alot of older games for relatively cheap prices. From there I recommend Neverwinter Nights (dungeons & dragons role playing game).

I also recommend Rome:Total War, if you like military strategy games.

I'd suggest some action packed adventure games if you're new to gaming Pad. Games like Spyro and Crash Bandicoot were what I used to play as a nipper. Dunno what the PC gaming equivalent of those would be though.

Yes yours is rather sinister also.

Ummm Mass Effect says I need Nvidia GEForce 88000 GT or better. I have GT 520 (I can "obtain" Mass Effect2)

Your card blows that away, so I wouldn't worry about the requirements of Mass Effect 1 or 2. They don't really go in numerical order. A GTX 480 is probably better than a GT 520, but a GTX 560 ti is better than either, whereas an 8800 GT is pretty bad by modern standards.

Can I start just using this box and a mouse? Can I get older games for free?

Any suggestions will be most welcome.

Some details about this box .How suitable?

Acer All-in-one. model Z5761

Intel core i7-2600 CPU @ 2.80ghz 4 core.

8 GB RAM

2TB hard drive

nvidia GE force GT520 graphics card. (1GB)

Windows 7 Home Premium

Get "Steam", its got loads of games on it which you can download. Gives you the specifications required for each.
I recommend "The Binding of Isaac". A rouge like game from the twisted mind of Edmund McMillien, one of the most critically acclaimed indie game designers to date.

Thanks guys, yet again. I'm feeling a bit overwhelmed.

Seems I'm gonna have a busy day, which is just as well: I don't celebrate Easter ever since I developed diabetes and no Easter bunny for me.
