Famous People Who Mocked God and Died

RE: Famous People Who Mocked God and Died
Gilligan Wrote:"In one of the quiet towns of the West, years ago, there lived an able and faithful minister of the Gospel. There was in his parish at a certain time an unusual interest in religion, and a sermon was preached on the "Wrath of God." It was a very faithful discourse, and deeply affected the congregation.

After the sermon an inquiry meeting was held, and many remained. Among the number were two wicked young men, who, from motives of curiosity or mischief, placed themselves among the inquirers. They tried to disturb the meeting and distract the attention of those who were really serious. After the meeting they went to the hotel, and, walking up to the bar, called for something to drink. They were asked what they would have. One of them replied, "Give me a glass of the wrath of God." The bartender turned him out something in the usual way, and he drank it and instantly fell dead upon the floor! A powerful impression was made upon the young men of that place, and the event is remembered there yet with fear and dread."

Again, are you sure you want to be telling people that your god killed someone over some stupid shit like that? After all, an omnipotent being shouldn't be threatened by a lowly little human consumed with hubris, but bullies have to flex their muscles, don't they?

Interesting how we've shifted from openly mocking God, to having a (presumably) sinful lifestyle, to "putting off" getting saved. I look forward to seeing where those goalposts go to next.
At the age of five, Skagra decided emphatically that God did not exist.  This revelation tends to make most people in the universe who have it react in one of two ways - with relief or with despair.  Only Skagra responded to it by thinking, 'Wait a second.  That means there's a situation vacant.'

People die all the time in all kinds of ways. Car accidents are extremely common. The likely hood that you will end up in some kind of accident on the road is quite high. Millions of cars driving up to 30 to 40 mph and 60 to 80 mph on motor ways, with cars driving in the same direction and in the opposite direction and the fact that there are countless dangerous drivers out there driving day after day putting others at risk.

Whether she went to a religious gathering or not, it's not suspicious in any way.

How do you explain the timing between the mocking and the death. John Lennon would be an exception in these because it was fourteen years, but the others were only HOURS, DAYS, or WEEKS at the most.

This is one of my favourites:

Lightning hits preacher after call to God

Quote:Church members in the town of Forest in the state of Ohio said the preacher had been emphasising the importance of penance when, in the course of his prayers, he called on the heavens above.

The lightning struck the steeple, then hit the preacher himself when it travelled through electrical wiring to his microphone.

Oh please, your whole original post was a rant.
"Sisters, you know only the north; I have traveled in the south lands. There are churches there, believe me, that cut their children too, as the people of Bolvangar did--not in the same way, but just as horribly. They cut their sexual organs, yes, both boys and girls; they cut them with knives so that they shan't feel. That is what the Church does, and every church is the same: control, destroy, obliterate every good feeling. So if a war comes, and the Church is on one side of it, we must be on the other, no matter what strange allies we find ourselves bound to."

How many years before the accident did they mock your imaginary friend? How do I explain it? I already did. Road accidents are very common, the likely hood of being in one is quite high, hence why we have seatbelts, speed limits and other safety systems to reduce the risk of harm and increase the chances of survival. I've mocked religion all my life, so has my entire family. We're still here. My granddad who is in his mid 70's is still physically fit. And yet Pope John XXI died because a roof fell on him, who declared the teaching of the laws of nature a heresy. Gravity (a law of nature) that killed him. Perhaps he shouldn't of mocked nature.
Extraordinary claims require extraordinary evidence - Carl Sagan

Mankind's intelligence walks hand in hand with it's stupidity.

Being an atheist says nothing about your overall intelligence, it just means you don't believe in god. Atheists can be as bright as any scientist and as stupid as any creationist.

You never really know just how stupid someone is, until you've argued with them.

First of all you need to prove that the mocking caused the deaths. Good luck with that one.

Yeah, so?

Can I just point out that you missed the Christopher/Peter Hitchens comparison.

You are currently experiencing a lucky and very brief window of awareness, sandwiched in between two periods of timeless and utter nothingness. So why not make the most of it, and stop wasting your life away trying to convince other people that there is something else? The reality is obvious.

Wouldn't the timing suggest a connection?

Coincidence. In fact, if we were to statically analyze when people mocked god and when they died, I guarantee you there would be no correlation showing the mocking had any influence on their death. We could do an experiment here...your god is a dick. Now how long do I have to live before it is conclusive proof that my statement will not affect my time of death?
