Drich, you do realize that the passages you just offered as an excuse merely confirm that god gives away these superpowers, there isn't anything in there which contradicts the verse Rollers use to justify their religious observances.
I'd say the death by posinous snake is a pretty big condradiction. If the guy died then it is obvious he was not indowed with said 'spiritual gift.'
But by all means, attempt to erode the credibility of any given passage by reference to another passage until you're blue in the face. You're taking a load off of folks like me. Thanks buddy. It's always nice to meet a brother in disbelief.
Nothing has been erroded here. Paul's message simply explain not everyone yeilds all of the powers of the Holy Spirit. Nor are we in a position to 'name and claim' Spiritual powers. To claim a power of the Holy Spirit that has not been Given may not be a direct example of blaspheme of the Spirit, but I'd be inclined to think it is close.

I am not on either side of the arguement here. I am simply stating what the bible says and letting the chips fall where they may.

You have to remember the mentality you are dealing with Z/B.

That's fine Drich, we don't all get all the superpowers (I'd say that no one gets any of them, and I'd be right, but hey, whatever), but that passage does not imply or suggest that the superpowers listed as belonging to those that believe are not given to them.

You've offered an empty excuse. Clap
So long as you argue against one passage by way of another you are eroding the credibility of one or both passages, period, whether you believe so or not. Clap
That's assuming that the reader thinks you actually know wtf you are talking about, which I do not, so it might be more appropriate to point to the way you are eroding your own credibility. Clap

ZB Wrote:16:15 And he said unto them, Go ye into all the world, and preach the gospel to every creature.
16:16 He that believeth and is baptized shall be saved; but he that believeth not shall be damned.
16:17 And these signs shall follow them that believe; In my name shall they cast out devils; they shall speak with new tongues;
16:18 They shall take up serpents; and if they drink any deadly thing, it shall not hurt them; they shall lay hands on the sick, and they shall recover.
16:19 So then after the Lord had spoken unto them, he was received up into heaven, and sat on the right hand of God.
16:20 And they went forth, and preached every where, the Lord working with them, and confirming the word with signs following. Amen.

There it is, which bit says it only applies to the disciples?

Gc Wrote:16:15 And He said unto them, "Go ye into all the world"
He was talking specifically to His disciple, this statement was not made to others and Christ told His disciples about the protection that would be upon them. This protection was meant only for them an so were the other things mentioned.

John 17:18 As Thou didst send me into the world, I also have sent them (disciples) into the world.
19) "And for their sakes I sanctify Myself, that they themselves also may be sanctified in truth.
20)"I do not ask in behalf of these alone,but for those also who believe in Me through their word;
21) that they may all be one; even as Thou, Father art in Me, and I in Thee, that they also may be in Us; that the world may believe that Thou didst send Me.
Here Jesus specifically states He has prayed for future Christians.

Weak willed as well as petty and spiteful.

Even myself, being human and all that goes with that, after 20 plus years of smoking, I could not be tempted to smoke ever again. I'm not bragging, I just can not stand even the smell or taste, and I'm so glad I quit.

ZB Wrote:I understand what you mean, afterall sending 2 bears to maul children to death is hardly the actions of a being capable of self restraint.

What does self restraint have to do with temptation, these children did not tempt God.
God loves those who believe and those who do not and the same goes for me, you have no choice in this matter. That puts the matter of total free will to rest.

Serves them right.

Ah, that would explain why this sort of thing isn't more widely practised. It does have that 'ten to five on a Friday afternoon' feel about it, or perhaps something that seemed like a good idea at the christmas piss-up:

"Oh no, mate, you can't put that down, thass - thass jus' a lawsuit waitin' to 'appen, that is!"

"Nah, they'll know iss jus' a joke, they won't be that stupid!"
At the age of five, Skagra decided emphatically that God did not exist.  This revelation tends to make most people in the universe who have it react in one of two ways - with relief or with despair.  Only Skagra responded to it by thinking, 'Wait a second.  That means there's a situation vacant.'

Offer your applause to Paul, he wrote the passage you seem to appreciate so much. I am simply honoring what the bible says no matter where it may lead.

Except wen you don;t like what it says, then you pit the passages against each other. A tactic which might work, if the passages actually contradicted each other or clarified each other at all.

Paul who btw, sounds like some mythical shit to me.

Ahh, so what Paul says trumps what Jesus says.

(The words of a mere mortal override the word of god)

Cool, I'll remember that.
