An UNBIASED summary of the candidates' views?
#11
RE: An UNBIASED summary of the candidates' views?
So you see Romney as just as good as Obama?

'A pox on both your houses' sounds deep, but really is what a child would do - "I'm taking my ball home".

Withholding votes would only yield results if there were consequences for candidates getting below a certain threshold of votes, regardless if they hold the "majority" of said votes.

As of now, there are no such conditionals or consequences in America, save for giving your vote to whomever wins.

Because that's the end result.

In a two party system, you are as much voting against candidates as for.

What Obama is is a pragmatist who lives in the real world, in a country inhabited by tiny brained people. I trust him to pick up all the slack available in the system to improve things for the working and middle classes and for the poor. I fully expect Romney would do exactly the opposite. I'll hold my head up high and cast a ballot for Obama. He is perfect for the times.

I did not use the terms 'good' or 'competent' when describing either candidate, kindly do not put words in my mouth. It is not a matter of which one is better or worst;neither is acceptable.

Yes,it certainly can be the response of a petulant child not getting his own way. It can also be the rational response of a pissed off adult.

Indeed, that is the original context of the misquote of Shakespeare ("a plague a both your houses" Romeo and Juliet, act 3,scene 1) :

Quote:This is a famous quote from Romeo and Juliet. As Mercutio dies, he utters this phrase three times, cursing the families whose rivalry led to his death. The phrase is commonly applied to criticize warring factions whose rivalry brings ruin to others.

In my opinion, a rational and appropriate response when faced with two useless politicians/political parties.

I actually trust both to screw over the middle class and working poor. One out of intent, the other through capitulation.
I am the Infantry. I am my country’s strength in war, her deterrent in peace. I am the heart of the fight… wherever, whenever. I carry America’s faith and honor against her enemies. I am the Queen of Battle. I am what my country expects me to be, the best trained Soldier in the world. In the race for victory, I am swift, determined, and courageous, armed with a fierce will to win. Never will I fail my country’s trust. Always I fight on…through the foe, to the objective, to triumph overall. If necessary, I will fight to my death. By my steadfast courage, I have won more than 200 years of freedom. I yield not to weakness, to hunger, to cowardice, to fatigue, to superior odds, For I am mentally tough, physically strong, and morally straight. I forsake not, my country, my mission, my comrades, my sacred duty. I am relentless. I am always there, now and forever. I AM THE INFANTRY! FOLLOW ME!

I'd wish for that too if I thought any good could come of it. I actually think anyone who pissed the tea baggers off even more would wind up able to accomplish even less. Don't be fooled into thinking that winning the White House actually grants you a whole lot of power. It doesn't.

Between getting what I personally would like in an ideal world and getting the best possible in this actual world, I'll take the best possible.

No matter who wins the next election, we will be able to play the next inagural address backwards and hear a grown man claim that he stayed the previous night in a Holiday Inn Express.

What does each candidate believe in? I am not sure either candidate believes in much, but I can list some things they claim to believe, what they supported, what party they are, etc.

Obama said he would like to see single payer health care but that it might not be politically possible. He supports the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act. Romney claims he will repeal it.

Neither candidate supports the legalization of marijuana.

Obama said he considers water-boarding a form of torture. Romney said he does not.

Both candidates support the NDAA.

Romney is supposedly a Mormon. Obama is supposedly a Christian.

Obama is a member of the Democratic Party. Romney is a member of the Republican Party.

Romney's top contributors are investment firms. Obama's are a bit more diverse, with universities and investment firms at the top.

Both candidates claim that teaching "intelligent design" or creationism in schools is not science.

Neither candidate has claimed to be opposed to the PATRIOT Act.

Obama recently claimed to support gay marriage. Romney does not.

Critics of Obama on the left and libertarian right often say Obama is pro-war and awful on civil liberties. His defenders often point to the Constitution and Republican-dominated congress and say that impeded his ability to make the changes he wanted.

Critics of Romney say he is the ultimate "flip-flopper" for supporting a bunch of policies and changing to the opposite position later, making him an extremely unpredictable demagogue. Fans of Romney insist that he can turn the economy around and that is most important.

This is getting too long, but look up their gun rights positions, wars, supposed budget plans, etc.
