Negative reputation?
I was thinking why dont we add a function when we can give negative and neutral reputation.

This would help members to trust each other even more. We could easily separate trolls from normal members this way,....

We had negative and neutral reputation at one time. People abused it to attack people they didn't like, and it spawned a number of reputation "wars". So, we removed it.

It is easy to see who the best members are...they have 5+ reputation points. Trolls either have a couple, or none at all.

Oi! Angry

I must say, though... despite making a lot of what (to me) seemed like entertaining/amusing/informative posts... you lot are tight-arsed as hell when it comes to giving out reputation points. Wink

I said "best" members, not "good" members. No offense, but there are some members of this community who have been here for years. You can't compare yourself to them after a week.

You'll get more rep points soon.

I rarely think about it and only use it when something someone says really surprises and/or delights me and/or she is intriguing. When I see someone take an unpopular stand for principled reasons which make some sense to me it makes me think, hey that has to be acknowledged. Otherwise, if it is simply a good point I agree with, I'll just say so or challenge it if I don't. Mostly I don't see it or think about it, but no offense intended.

If you want more reps, tell everyone you're a female liberal/socialist/anti war that dislikes Obama and loves seperation of church and state.

Easy wins are easy.

...and it helps to have an ample rack Big Grin
When I was young, there was a god with infinite power protecting me. Is there anyone else who felt that way? And was sure about it? but the first time I fell in love, I was thrown down - or maybe I broke free - and I bade farewell to God and became human. Now I don't have God's protection, and I walk on the ground without wings, but I don't regret this hardship. I want to live as a person. -Arina Tanemura

RE: Negative reputation?
I'm not entirely sure what goes into me deciding to rep someone. I guess if someone comes across as friendly, intelligent, informative, fair and clear that's what makes me think about repping them. Being funny also helps, but I doubt I'd ever up-vote someone solely for that quality. I've been here roughly 7 months and I think I've maybe repped 5 - 7 people. I usually only remember the rep system when a post really strikes me.

And on topic: I'm glad there isn't a negative rep available.
