Well, I play a lot of RPGs (I've only been able to play Final Fantasy III and IV, but I've played a little Fire Emblem, Pokemon, Dragon Quest IX, and Shin Megami Tensei: Devil Survivor 2. I also like some action RPGs.)
We had dial-up with standard cable at my house for the longest time, so I was pretty limited in what anime I could watch. I've seen a little Bleach, Naruto (all or the original, about half of Shippuden), all of Death Note, and I've read all of the Fruit's Basket manga. I've seen bits and pieces of others too. Before I even was able to see any, I figured it would be good because of the art style (why are most animated show in America so mediocre?)
Edit: I'm in Anime Club at my college, so I hope to be exposed to more than a few types of different anime. As for action RPGs, I've played Phantasy Star O (the O with the slash through it...), Tales of Symphonia: Dawn of the New World, and the Mario and Luigi series. (Monster Hunter tri isn't an action RPG, is it? I've seen it classified as that in some places)

Welcome.
If you want excellent action rpg's, I suggest the Elder Scrolls series.

Skyrim will leave you amazed, but it's the only Elder Scrolls I've played. I've heard the rest of them are phenomenal as well.
