The worst accent I have ever heard was in a Scottish film about lower-class drug dealers(can't remember the name). The accent was so horrendous that even though the film was in English, it required English subtitles.
Even if the open windows of science at first make us shiver after the cozy indoor warmth of traditional humanizing myths, in the end the fresh air brings vigor, and the great spaces have a splendor of their own - Bertrand Russell

No, it was something more recent than that, but on a side note, I did try to read some of the book Trainspotting, which is written phonetically with a Scottish accent. I found myself having to speak it outloud just to figure out what the fuck was being said. The movie I'm thinking of was some little obscure film I had never heard of until I saw it playing on HBO.
